I got it and with 1 hour installation tacked on for $400. At the time I bought it, the Electrochromatic Mirror with Compass and Temp was MSRP $352.05 and labour was ~$40/hr at Gyro Mazda. They are in Toronto.

I just checked mazda.ca website and the MSRP are as follows:

2002 Protege 5:
$359.09 - Electrochromatic Mirror with Compass & Temperature

2003 Protege 5:
$307.65 - Electrochromatic Mirror with Compass
$379.99 - Electrochromatic Mirror with Compass & Temperature

what a rip off, you could get a radar detector witha digital compass and a LCD readout therm. for cheaper

Yes, I guess you could go to your local Canadian Tire and buy a compass and temperature display for even cheaper minus the illegal radar detector. But I think the primary reason for the mirror upgrade is for the auto-dimming feature.
