Question Crutchfield says some 6.5 won't fit

Hello all, I have been reading some of your very helpful threads, but this is my first post. I am looking to upgrade the stock speakers in my Pro5. Crutchfield told me that some 6.5 might have problems fitting in the rear. I am particularly interested the Infinity Reference 652i and the Polk EX365, but both won't fit according to Crutchfield. Does anyone have these speakers in their Pro5 or know that this is true? Any opinions/feedbacks on my two choices for speakers? Any other brand you guys recommend I look at? I am planning to keep the price range at $200-$300. I will be powering the speakers with the factory radio until a wiring harness comes out.

crutchfield bases that on the mounting depth of the speakers. because there si limited space inside the door panel, some deeper mounting speakers won't clear your window track, or whatever else may be inside the door. also the front of the speaker might interfere with the door panel in the front. just becuase a pseaker will fit in the hole, doesn't really mean it will fit the car. i would suggest buying some speakers from a local shop that will let you return them if they won't fit. (maybe even have the shop install them.)

i think both of those will fit but i would follow njaremka suggestion. I think both of those speakers have been talked about a good bit on this board. Use the search feature to find them. There are wiring harnesses available also if you want to change your deck....I think most of us have already done that. Check into MBQuart speakers for your car.....they are awesome. You can get the four you need for the P5 with titanium dome tweaters for under $300.

have the harnesses for the 2001 and 2002 Pros made it onto the market finally. If you have a brand that would be great... I need to get a real harness into my car... not the quick and dirty solution that I used.

thanks!

Anyway, I installed a pair of Polk EX602a's in the rear doors today and the speaker mounting holes don't really line up with the screw holes on the door. Had to cut some part of the speaker mounting holes to make it fit. So maybe that's what Crotchfeeld meant by not fitting exactly. Yep, the Polks are 6.5".

JJB, we're gonna have the same speaker setup! (the 572a's just arrived today by UPS)

cool both sets arrived today at work! They look to be decent enough and the price was OK on them as well. Now I just need a nice warm day to be able to work on the car... it's freakin cold out and I do not need things being more brittle than they already are of course knowing me I will not be able to stand looking at them and they will go in over the weekend!

Hehe, wait for a nice warm day? Why bother?! It was 37F outside today and i still did it! The only thing bad is that the sun sets around 6pm, so didn't have time to finish the fronts
