Best way to seal off my 6.5 mids from the rest of the door.

I had to use a Dremel tool and shave the metal off to incorporate the 6.5s in my doors. I also used acoustic baffles from crutchfield to protect them from moisture. A lot of people talk about moisture being a problem in Proteges and when you take the factory speakers out, you will see the plastic "splash guards" on them. You can use a thin piece of wood and cut around 6x8 inch and then put the the speaker against it to cut along it. Just be sure to use some water sealant. HH told me that they will rot out from moisture, and that you will have to redo the whole process again. I didn't see a tutorial site any where. There is a site on how to take the panels off which is surprisingly easy. I was afraid of screwing it up the first time, but it honestly isn't difficult at all.

Blue- at least on Focals the manufacturer recommends against enclosing the mids. I asked them for a bit of help on my current project, and that was a key recommendation. They like the idea of deadening the doors to make a acoustic chamber out of the whole thing, but not to limit the size of the air chamber.
Just an FYI- I like you feel that one could "tighten up" the mids by building a nice enclosure, but Focal says otherwise...
Take care there buddy- how goes the 18th Airborne? I did many a job with them over the years...

It is marginally better- the idea is that placing the speaker in the pod or the baffle is it will produce a tighter bass. But that is for a speaker that is designed to be in a sealed enclosure.
Refer to most knowledge of bass speakers, and apply it to mids. Most sealed boxes for bass have difinite sizes to keep the harmonics right. Some are designed for sealed enviorments, but it is an advertised fact about the sub, right? I could not recall having seen such specs, so I asked my focal rep. He did not know,so he checked, and the repy was no, don't run thier mids in a sealed fashion they are designed to operate in a open fashion, not sealed. I can't say what other companies will say, but I would suggest dropping a dime or at least an E-mail to find out before going to the effort to construct enclosures...
