tonight i ATTEMPTED to mount my amp under the drivers seat....to isolate the amp I made a wooden rail for each side....then I went to attach them to the floor...well wouldn't you know it....there is a set of tubing under the floor in the exact spot I was going to mound the amp...grrrr....then after close examination I find that the floorpan of the car is incredibly uneven in that area....SO....I am going to go for the velcro idea.....got to make another trip to walmart tomorrow I guess.

Just adding my .02, I placed both my amps under the two front seats....didn't have any velcro (or patience for that matter) so I just used some short course thread wood screws and ran them into the carpet, not the floorpan, and the amps hold in fine.....obviously the screws don't ever really tighten, I just got them snug and they stayed put during the autocross, I figure if they make it through that, they are good to go.

Another good idea for those wary of drilling into sheetmetal. Not bad - but they might loosen up over time. Still, it's easier and safer than tapping the metal. Sounds like something I would do..... If it holds, it holds, right?

click my www for pictures, for the sub amp its just bolted to the back of the enclosure, the enclosure is heavy nuff to not slide around while i do some... "spirited" cornering for the speaker amp its just under my front seat, that too does not slide around, AT ALL. fits exacaly in between the heater vent plastic thing and the side of the car.

I did my install today....put the amp under the drivers side...as per my last post you noticed I decided to go with velcro....

at wally world they sell a nice big back for about $5 that has a strip 5 feet long and is about 2 1/2 inches wide...and the best part is its got a peel off adhesive back to it....I put one strip the length of the amp on each side....that sucker isn't going ANYWHERE!!! it works like a champ.....

Kinda wish I would have thought of the velcro thing...but the project was already underway, and I wasn't about to go to the store then.....oh well.

I plan on mounting my amp in my 90 protege on the back of the back seat, the velcro wouldn't do to good there I would think when I have the seat up. It would probably slip off, just because of the weight of the amp and at that angle. I was thinking I may just mount my amp in the trunk along with the sub, and then I could use velcro for both.

believe me...if you did the velcro thing to your amp using the velcro I did it wouldn't slip off the back of the seat....HOWEVER...I bet the adhesive that holds the velcro to the amp would give up after a while...

your amp WOULD be too heavy for that reason.

I have my sub-amp and distribution block under the drivers seat and a 4 channel amp and XM tuner underneath my passenger seats. No problems with space anywhere. There is plenty of space in our cars for amps under the front seats.

Circuit City tried to tell me they couldn't install the amps under the front seats and would have to mount them to the back of the rear seats. What a load of crap! So much for folding the seats down and using all that cargo space (why I went shopping for a wagon in the first place).
