Can I get suggestions as to where you guys put your amps in your P5? I'd like it hidden or tucked away somewhere. Post pics if you could

its been done a lot...under either seat...there is plenty of room. I am about to mount mine under the drivers seat.

yuppers... mine's under the passenger seat... i'm getting another amp (MRV-F340) soon n i'm gonna put it under the driver's seat. the only thing ya gotta watch out for is don't get screws that are too long, or else you'll see them pokin out the bottom of your car (trust me, i know bout that one personally... ) the other option on the back of the rear seats... the whole plate is sheetmetal there n it's pretty sturdy. Right now i have my box anchored to it (for insurance/anti-theft purposes - i'm using tamper-proof allen screws). I hooked it there cuz i've got the trunk liner and didn't want to poke any holes in it... gotta keep it waterproof for when i go skiing/snowboarding and snow melts in the trunk...

i have my amp for my highs underneath my front passenger and the amp for my sub is mounted on an amp rack in the rear...check out the system...check out my sounddomain page by clicking my ww on the bottom of my post...

rawny... i checked out your site before I posted this original thread actually. Nice install. I like how you still got space in the trunk after all that. I won't have a big sub though, maybe more but smaller 8" subs.

there is LOTS of air space around the amp under the seat....plenty of circulation....NO PROBLEM

Or you could forget the screws, get a nice sheet of velcro, and use the "hook" (rough) side on the bottom of the amp. It'll stick to the carpet and you'll have no need at all for screws. That'd be my preference if I put amps under the seats (mine are on the backs of the rear seats, in the hatch. I used a large piece of MDF to cover the area, and used some straps thru the child seat hooks to secure it. Basically, my amp install is 100% removeable if necessary, with no screw holes anywhere).

Well, the only heat problem i can imagine (putting the amp under the seat) is when you have the heat on during winter and the air duct blows hot air across the amp (with air blowing to the feet).

But i'm sure it's not a problem with places that never gets cold

will insurance still cover that as being "permanently attached" to the vehicle? cuz i dunno how is it in the States, but here in vancouver, our insurance company won't cover anything that's not "permanently" part of the vehicle...

WELL it does get cold enough to use the heater...but you know what? you take a nice little piece of high density foam.....like the kind KOOZIE's are made of...and you cut it just the right size/shape and you put it in the end of the duct outlet under the seat with the amp...and you don't have hot air blowing on or around your amp....and your passanger will NEVER know. :{D

Interesting question - I really have no idea. Truth is, I have never listed any stereo equipment with my insurance company, so I have no idea what the rules are for that sort of thing. I would think the best thing would be to ask an agent, and see what he/she says. Then, if you're really concerned, get them to put it in writing if the answer is that it IS covered.

On a similar topic, though - what about a child seat? An aftermarket removeable roof rack? Will they cover nothing that is considered to be a temporary installation?

Great idea! Yeah, the passengers can get out if they don't like it (or they're freezing their toes off). Besides, the amp will provide some warmth anyway

yes they will cover a roof rack since it's bolted down as part of the car, but no they will not cover a child seat since it can be removed... i think they require screws which is why i actually rigged threaded grommits into the back panel of my rear seats and anchored my box for my subs to it... i know that if you bolt your amp down it IS covered by insurance, but i've just never heard of anyone using velcro....

I beleive that with my insurer you need to take out addition coverage (a rider) on any car electronics that were not factory installed. I think that even includes aftermarket head units mounted securely in the factory opening. I think the best bet is to talk to your agent. See what he says and then if you need to add coverage, make the sensible choice of whether you want it or not. If you've got a $500.00 deductable comprehensive policy and your $400.00 HU gets stolen then you're kinda SOL anyway. And I wouldn't doubt that if your $400.00 HU got stolen and they did $500.00 worth of damage trying to get at it you still would be out, but this time to the tune of $900.00 because the HU wouldn't be covered at all but the vandalism would. Insurance companies are not really unscrupulous, they just have rules and it's up to the comsumer to find out what they are and assess the cost/benefit ratio to make a smart choice. BTW insurers are very different from state to state and company to company, so definitly talk to your agent! Oh yeah, always keep receipts and take pics of the install just in case.
