Alpine CDA-9813 won't fit?

Hey all, been a while since I've posted here.

I got a killer deal on an Alpine CDA-9813 head unit from a buddy. However when I go to Crutchfield to order a wiring harness, their page and tech guy say it won't fit my '02 Protege5. They say the deck opening is too short for this deck. Their site says the 9811 will fit though.

Do you guys agree? Will the 9813 just not fit? If so, I'll sell it and get a 9811...

Thanks!

Nate

I think it WILL fit. I have a 1997 Protege and the 9807 fits perfectly. The two units are almost the same (except for a few extra functions and slightly more power). I can't say for sure if it will fit the new Protege's but it seems logical...

There's another board member here (I think his screen name is asylum something, but I may be wrong) who has the 9813 and has a new Protege, so yeah... It's a safe bet that it will fit.

UPDATE: OK, I checked and it is JAC who has a 2003 Protege5 and an Alpine 9815. asylum24 has a 1996 Protege... IMO, if the 9815 fits, the 9811 will fit as well.

I just installed the 9815 and it fits fine. Good choice in deck by the way.

What's up with Crutchfield? Do they know what the hell they are talking about?! i can't believe they said it wouldn't fit! I guess they want you to buy one of their players.

One more question. I've heard because these decks have such a high power internal amp you need to run 10 gauge wire straight from the battery to their + wire. True?

Thanks again all.

Thanks. I'll be running the internal amp for the door speakers, and running a seperate amp for the sub. I've ordered a 10 gauge amp wiring kit to use for the deck, so should be good to go. Thanks.

They do fit, very nicely if I might add.

About the 10g, the V-drive sucks a lot of power so you should use a direct fused line from the battery, I know people who wired it to the wire harness and they've had no problems, I wanted to play it safe so I used the 10g, it's not worth it to risk a very nice HU like this for 15 bucks IMO. It's very easy to do too.

Thanks for the tips guys. I installed the deck last night and it fit perfectly...don't know what Crutchfield was smoking. I ran a 10 gauge from the battery (w/ 30A fuse) and seems to run clean. Now I just need to upgrade my weak *** door speakers and get the XM and sub wired up.

make sure you go to alpines site and use their I-personalize feature to get your time corrections and your xovers and EQ settings.... it amkes the car sound so much better even if you have stock speakers... you'll have to print the results out instead of just burning a data cd like you can with teh 9815 just my tip... you'll like the 13... I love mine Im thinking of doing hte 10 guage thing just incase(its under warranty still but... dont want to have to ship it back) and who knows maybe it'll sound even better...

how exactly did you hook up the wire?

only the power wire? don't you have to beef up the ground as well?
