Aftermarket keyless entry - dome light output?

My car came with an aftermarket keyless entry system.

When I got the car, the outputs for the horn and dome light were not connected.

I don't want the horn connected (I dunno, I think cars chirping and honking when the doors are locked/unlocked - or alarms armed/disarmed - is so... hey-look-at-my-ride-it-is-so-special-it-is-all-"protected"-and-****-why-don't-you-wait-until-I-leave-and-then-smack-a-window-with-your-hand-so-I-can-have-a-nervous-breakdown.)

What was I saying?

Oh yeah, I do want to hook up the domelight output, as I understand that it will turn the domelight on for X seconds when I unlock the car. Seems like a handy feature.

Now, I have no clue what make/model the keyless entry is (no name or logo on the box or the transmitters).

So, two questions:

1) Should I assume the "domelight supervision" wire needs a relay attached to it?

2) Anyone know where I would connect this on a 3rd gen (1999) sedan?

most alams provide a 200ma (-) negative output for the domelight supervision, since you do not know what the model/brand is, i can't tell you for sure, as some alarms have the relay built in.

If the relay is built in, then there will be 2 wires assosiated with the dome super, an input wire. This wire tells the relay what polarity to output. In the Protege, the door trigger (or domelight) wire is negative, so that input wire, would go to ground. The other wire, being the output wire, would go to the door trigger (domelight) wire in the car.

If the alarm simply has a 200ma (low voltage) output then you will most definetely need a relay. Follow the diagram below.
99% of alarms use a negative dome super output.

P.S. You can simply connect the output wire from the relay (beit built in or added) directly to the alarms door trigger wire in the alarms harness, no need to run it all the way to the connection point of the door trigger.

Also, be sure to check out my Security FAQ, it has alot of usefull info about alarms. The link is in my sig below.

The 3rd gen Protege door trigger/domelight wire is Black/Blue (-) in the drivers kick panel, but like i said, you can connect the relay output to the door trigger input wire of the alarm.

Thanks for the info! I did look through your site, I just didn't see this particular bit.

This unit has a single wire for domelight supervision, so I assume the relay is NOT built in then. (It uses an external relay for the door locks.)

I am not sure if the harness has a door trigger wire. It's not an alarm, only a keyless entry unit.

The harness for this unit looks like this (this is embossed on the back of the housing):
---
Pink: 2nd unlock
Blue: Unlock
Red: +12Vdc
Green: Lock
---

---
Black/white: Domelight supervision (-) output
White: Parking lights +12Vdc output
Brown: Siren/horn (-) output
Pink: 3rd channel (-) output

Red: +12Vdc main power
Black: Ground
Yellow: Ignition switched +12Vdc
Gray: 2nd channel (-) output
Orange: Ground when armed 500ma
---

There does not seem to be anything related to "door trigger".

The circuitboard says "DTKEY VER 1.0.B COPYRIGHT 1997". Any idea on make/model?

Based on futher searching it looks like it may be a Delta Vehicle Security model - maybe OEM'ed to someone else?

This observation is based on the casing and remote design:

(My remote actually has a "key" icon for the middle button instead of the "closed/open lock" icon and there is nothing printed in the aea below it. It is otherwise identical.)

I know the remote, it is a generic type, although i used to sell them under the name Accele and i had my shop name on it too. They come in 3 and 4 button versions. I never did find out for sure, but i think Accele makes them for everybody else.

I am sure there are many different alarms that appear with this same style remote, they build them either as generic and they put your name on it, or you can have them custom built.

See you don't even have to have a shop or anything, just call em up, tell you want them to say "Protege Alarm", pay for them and they send em out with Protege Alarm stickers on them...you, Mr Alarm on ebay, sells them as Factory Protege Alarms...Hey they say so right on the remote right.... you see what i mean....

use the black/white wire and wire it to the relay.

since there's no door trigger input wire, you'll need to run the wire to the cars door trigger wire, the Black/Blue, from pin 30 of the relay.

BTW, not to bum you out or nothing, but i hope you didn't pay too much for it. I stopped selling them for reliability issues and defective remotes.

Eh, it was already in the car when I bought it...

It works OK, I just want to hook up the dome light if it's not too much of a PITA.

I think I'll go get a pre-wired socket and relay tomorrow and give it a try.

It works!

Thanks to mazdaspeedwest for his help!

Now I don't need to bother with an ignition keyhole light, although I am still interested in a dome light fader.
