2000.5 interior consol lights

i have a 2000.5 auto with a trip tronic and the plus and the minus dont light up at night is this normal

yep yep....

i noticed that, too, when i first turned on the lights at night. in my sister's A4, the +/- symbols light up, but in this car, it doesn't. stinks. but at least the instrument panel tells you what gear you are in... just got to keep in mind that pulling back upshifts and pushing forward downshifts... in the A4, it's backwards. i don't know who's backwards, really... it's just i was used to the A4 style and when i first got my P5, i downshifted a lot on accident! hope this reassures you a bit. btw, how's yours holding up? damn tucson roads are making mine's rattle a bit... gotta find out exactly where the rattle is coming from cause over certain roads, it's a major annoyance!
