2 units in-dash

Now I know alot of you got 2 units indash but did you buy a dash kit to get them in there or did they have to make one. I just got back from the Stereo shop and they said they are going to have to custom make one in order to get both my cd player and dvd player in the dash and its going to cost me like 80 bucs.

Also how much has anybody paid for the video install. For my dvd player and 2 headrest monitors with a custom pocket they want 370 .

I don't think you need any custom mounting plates. The opening is a double DIN already, so two units will fill it nicely. $80? That shop is trying to steal from you - or they just don't know any better; that the units should just slide in and fit fine.

Consider another shop, IMHO.

80.00 is a touch high for a install where extra parts are optional. HiHoslva is right on the money, you don't have to have any additional hardware to do a two unit install on a Protege. Extra stuff maybe required for wiring harnesses, but not for the placement into the hole in the dash...
Now depending on what they build, it might look cool though, so it is then a question of money vs. how it looks.
If done well, the 370 is not out of line with video installs.
I have paid more, and charged more, for installs of headunits and video. Nowdays I charge beer and keeping the shop clean behind me.... and no, I don't do "open door" engagements anymore... sorry!

There is no kit for what you want, because I went through the same thing myself. As far as 80 bucks for a shop to do it- thats is really pretty fair. It is a double din opening, but you cant just slide the sleeves in the hole and call it good. The middle will be really weak, and there will be a gap all the way around the outside. I was a professional installer for the past five years, and it took me about 3 hours to get my mounted the way I liked it.
Look at my page on cardomain and you will see what I did.

Good luck!

I agree. I'm also an installer. $370 for video install is good. Does that include parts? If so, you're getting a steal. Check their past work. It sounds too good if it includes parts.

125 for each headrest
40 to install the dvd player
70 for the mounting bracket or whatever its called.
And he said mabee a few more bucs for wires but I got most of them already.
I am not complaining about the cost I just don't know what to expect.
One other place I tried said about 250, but they were just going to through it in. I would rather go with a quality job.
And I have seen alot of there work and know they do a good job.

get some customer references if you can, and see what their jobs look like, and how they like them now they have had them. The shop most likely can show you thier cars, or a shop vechile, all of which ought to look killer conisdering they have the time to tinker on them when there is no pressing business!
Also try to get them to give you contacts for similar types of installs and pricing, and for icing on the cake similar hardware.
Ask how long it took, did you get it back on time, how did the staff do, did it work, does it still work, what would they change if they could, how was the shop to work with, and did the price creep up after they were into the job?
Good shops, or individual installers will be able to provide this to you, and it gives you a far more accurate expectation of what to expect.
Good luck, and let us all know how it turns out for you please!!

They had some killer cars in there showroom. A NSX, a brand new dodge ram , and a new Jetta I think. But I'm thinking of course there going to do a good job on there rides. One of my friends at work had here set up done there and she was real happy and I have had some minor stuff done there already so I feel pretty safe with them. I should be getting it done pretty soon.

Went to get everything put in today. Went in and the salesman told me about 350, because they were just going to alter another kit. He said mabee alittle more for some extra parts. I was like ok. I call them at about 4 and he tells me my dvd player will not go into my aux from my cd player so they needed to put in a rf adapter, so I was like ok( another 100 bucs). I get a call 45 minutes later saying my dvd player doesn't work ( bought it online) They got everything hooked up and the player doesn't work Not there fault. I say ok leave everything I will deal with it later. I go to pay for the work. He says 590 bucs. I was like what the ****. I sat there and talked to him for about 20 minutes and he just said the salesman fucked up. So now I have to get a new dvd player and pay to have everything removed and put back in. I am 190 dollars over what he said for my install and am hoping I can get my money back for the player, but not holding my breathe. Not a good experiance so far.

I don't think they messed up the player. It powers up on and off and then just spits out the disk. I bought the thing on ebay so its possible.

And I just looked at the paperwork I signed and its says something about using all parts and labor to complete the job. But I sighned a paper saying 350 not 590.

The work they did was great, everthing looks perfect, but thats not the point. The price just kept climbing. I am just hoping I can recover my money from the player.
