!$!$%^!#$ I just got wax on one of my rails on the roof!!! I'm usually very good at not hitting plastic but i F-ed up this time!!! Does anybody know a product that will remove the wax off the black plastic trim? I know armourall and meguiers covers it up for a bit, but I'd like to figure out how to remove it period.

 

Couple things you can try ..

1. Peanut Butter (yea yea no crunchy) ... work it into the plastic with an old tooth brush. The oils will lift the wax and then you can wipe it away.

2. 3M Adhesive and Wax remover ... work it in with a toothbrush .. this will take some time and probably several applications. I dries almost immediately so you will know if u need more. The only downside is that your trim WILL be very dull. Stoner's Trim Shine will make it shine like new --- spray it onto a towel and then apply it.

throw some jelly and bread on there, you'll have a nice sandwhich to boot . hot water and a tooth brush worked wonders for me on my door moldings... never thought wax on plastic could ever warrant putting peanut butter on your car though.. but, to each his own . try her solutions first, and if it doesn't bring quite the result, just try hot water.

Mate i have done the same but its all over my plastic gaurds and door handles and every thing..... mate try a very heavy duty vinyl cleaner, i just did that to my car and it worked wonders... another thing to try is some kero and a tooth brush. one of me mates works at a details and he just gets it with the high pressure cleaner or the kero-toothbrush trick, i think every one here has spelled wax or polish on there black trims one time or another, what kind of wax do ya use????? if you guys have meguires over there try there GOLD class wax its awesome hey...

 

Okay, I'm the wierdo

I just used my spit (licked my thumb), rubbed for about a minute, and kept waxing...lol

 

I drank too much caffeine, freakin "Monster" drink. Anyways, I'll try to remove the wax in a couple hours (an attempt to go to sleep), by the way to my austrailian friend, I'm a deticated Meguiers user (GOLD CLASS ROCKS)---I think I have basically ALL of there products in my garage.

But...I'm thinking about trying Some Zaino Bros' products...a fellow NJ guy like me created some awesome detailing products from what I hear, so I might give him a try.

Now it's time to buy some PBJ at the good old Wawa.

yo, Zaino is the ****. its so good, the car looks like it has a wet finish on it when your done. if you wanna get some cheap, bc its pretty expensive stuff, a good friend of mine is a dealer that sells their waxes. send me a PM, and i can put you in contact with him to buy the stuff.

Just poke the dry wax with a clean, new paint-brush. Poke, poke, poke, like a horny rabbit in the spring time. It'll clean 'em up easily.

 

Mother's makes a product called Back To Black. I think it is basically shoe polish. It is a liquid that you wipe on and then buff off. It'll cover up the wax marks on your roof rack. It worked for me!

It wears off after a while, though, requiring a new application every couple months.

 

I've also used Mother's Back to Black on my car and my sister's Accord, and it works pretty well. Gets rid of wax oopsies and sun fading as well.

 

The B2B only covers up the wax on the plastic and doesnt remove it.
