Man, I sooo want to do this, but I think my wife would fall down dead if she saw me take the inside roof out of my *new* car.

But I definately think that it looks *much* better. The roof rack is nothing to me. I still won't put anything up there for fear of scratching the roof... or scratching the roof rack!

Jeez - all that work, just to remove the rails?

This guy was definitely hell-bent on getting those things off. Possibly obsessive compulsive. Maybe in need of counseling and/or medication.

Nah, J/K! Looks really good, but WAY too much work fer me. I took off the cross-rails, snapped in the cover plates, and I'm fine with that.

To quote a cliche "The grass is always greener on the other side".

I spoke to my parts guy at the Mazda dealership and we were talking about the roof rack, AGAIN. Anyway, he said he gets requests for the streamlined racks all the time and he has to tell his customers that he cannot order them as it is a US item only. He would like to but no luck. He did say he will bring it up at the next Mazda parts meeting though as he is sure he is not the only one with this problem.

As an aside, all of the ads I have seen on TV for Mazda showing the P5 have been the US model and the reason I can tell is that it has that roof rack.

I wonder how many other things are unique to each country. Hmmm, I should start a thread and find out.

Cheers
Chris

hello Joker and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

if your dealer is telling you he can't get them...he is full of ****...and worthless....the part numbers are MAZDA PART NUMBERS....AND ANY DEALER CAN ORDER THEM.....don't know what to tell you other than to go over the guys head that you talked to....and keep going untill you get to the owner of the dealership and you end up getting your parts. OR....go do a different dealership.....guys here in the states HAVE ORDERED those parts...and recieved them....that website is proof....you just need to get a service manager that realizes that he works for YOU....the CUSTOMER!

OH YEAH...one more thing....if you do end up going to a different dealership....and once you get your parts....make sure you go back to the dealership that WOULDN'T help you....told you he couldn't get the parts....and tell the guys BOSS that you had to go to a different dealership to have a simple mazda part ordered because the service manager couldn't handle it.....and show them the part in question.....and walk out.

www.mazdaofwooster.com - they sell on eBay, too. Not those specific parts, of course, but I bought my cargo tray and rear bumper protector from them - very good people to deal with.

OK, .. since I JUST got done doing this, ...

1) Go to MazdaStuff
You'll have to call them and order the part (2 weeks to come in). Each strip is 59.95. Both of the part numbers listed in this post are correct, but one of them has changed.
2) You will have to remove the headliner. This is a real big pain in the butt, but can be done fairly quickly (about 3 hours with an oil change).

Basically, remove a-pillar, remove b-pillar, remove c-pillar (b and c can be loosened, but it's much easier to remove). Remove visors, all oh-sht handles, map lights, dome light, and the three small plugs at the back of the car. The headliner will pretty much fall out. There are three small metal tabs that hold the headliner to the moonroof (if you have one), they can just be bent out of the way.

Once you get all that stuff out, you can undo the 5 nuts that hold the roof rails and just pull them out.

The strips that you order just friction fit into place. There is an alignment nub, and a small snap catch. Other than that, they just sit there.

I have 2 questions for canadians.

1) Can someone please take pictures of the Canadian roof racks? I don't see how y'alls uprights fit into that small hole in the roof rails
2) Anyone want to discuss purchasing the complete set of US roof rails?

Canadian P5s have no roof racks - the filler strips you bought are for the Canadian version of the car.

What goes into the small removable filler pieces on the rails themselves? The four little things you can pop out.

That's just it - the Canadian P5's don't have the rails that the US-spec P5's do. The roof is basically the same as the sedan.

The procedure you performed - where you COMPLETELY removed the rack, including the rails and crossmembers - basically made your Pro into a Canadian-spec version.

Ok, let me rephrase.

On the filler pieces (the trim pieces, not the roof rails that make up the base of the American racks), the Canadian trim pieces on the roof of the P5 has 4 little pieces, about 1cm x 5cm that snap into the trim pieces itself. What are these for? What's underneath yours?
