*FULL* removal of US factory roof rack, check it out

Here is a link to someone who did a FULL removal of the factory roof rack. Nice pics and tutorial...

http://www.geocities.com/shareafile/index.html

P.S. Earlier today, his/her quota was exceeded, so the page was down. I saved the pics and pages if anyone need me to email them.

Hmm, now he has those big troughs on either side of the car. What he should do is get in touch with someone in Canada and see if he can get the fill in pieces like the Canadian P5s. My roof rack goes on and off and I have small caps to fill the holes so it does not look like anything was there. I am trying to post some pics but I am having some toruble with my web site.

Cheers

Okay, here is the information I got from my Mazda parts guy.

The part to fill in the troughs is called a ROOF MOULDING and there is a right and left side (Duh!). It also comes in two different versions, with roof rail and without roof rail. I got the part numbers WITH the roof rail.

Right hand side: B25R-50-9H0A

Left hand side: B25R-50-9L0A

You may want to have your dealer double check the numbers though.

Cheers

My P5 is a Canadian model so I did not have to do anything with it as it came installed. I believe the piece is metal and plastic. I also asked my parts guy for the price but he was unable to give me one as his computer system does not have it. He has to call Mazda Canada and get it. Must be too new.

Cheers

One more thing looking at that site (good find on that tutorial BTW) - there are two brackets left on each side in the troughs after removing the rails. If you look at the 'parts required' section of that site you will see that in the new weatherstrips from the Canadian car, there are holes that line up with the brackets. On the Canadian cars, there appears to be another bracket with a threaded hole that fits onto the bracket on the car. This is what the Thule roof racks we can order from the Mazda dealers attach to. If I can get some pics sometime and find a good place to post them, I will do so.

Dale.

Okay...as stated in the FIRST post....this has been done...and if you can get to that site he did a good job of putting a tutorial together with pictures.....

here are the two part numbers he got from his dealer and have installed...thus verifying that they ARE the right parts....

BJ3D-50-9L0D
BJ3D-50-9H0D

these are different than the ones above....I don't know what he dealer was lookin at when he gave you those....but these numbers have been purchased....tried...and are the right parts to fill in the channels from front to back AFTER you remove the roofracks.

You are right Sir Nuke. I called my dealer again and gave him your numbers and lo and behold he gave me a price of $58.80 CDN each or about $38 US. Boy this is so confusing!

I asked him if he had pictures of the parts but no such luck and he is going from a computer listing. Anyway, it seems that your numbers are the right numbers but it's interesting that those parts are available in the US while the US roof rack parts are unavailable to my dealer. Hmmm, what's up with that?

I think the ROOF RAIL refers to the US roof rack so the part numbers I gave come WITH the roof rails and are really US part numbers? I give up

The end result on the first post looks just like my P5!

Cheers
Chris

well ok heres my thought, maybe 1 of those numbers are for the brackets that replace the holes left in the railing after taking off the cross bars.

the numbers I listed are the pieces that fit in the groove AFTER you remove the rack and all its mounting hardware.....to get the real picture...go to that link in the first post and you will see in detail what it takes to COMPLETELY remove your rack.
