Winter tires and rims

Hey guys,

I realize that nobody probably wants to dicuss this issue cause winter is still aways away hopefully, but I need some advice from those who have used their P5's last winter.

Did you guys use the existing rims or did you go the winter tire steel rim route?. This is the route I'll be taking because I don't want my rims destroyed by winter fun and games.

What size of tires and rims do you recomend?. Where did you pick them up?. Is the Mazda dealer our best source or is Canadian tired, Walfart or some other place a better bet?.

steel 15" rims with snow tires... they are much more durable than the alloys when the plows dig the roads into pothole corridors.

Try your dealer. The dealer I went to has a special where they buy a large quantity of tires and rims because most of the cars that they sell use the same rims and tires ie: The Proteges. The dealer I got my P5 from offers rims and tires for $700.00

I got Nokian Hakkapelitta 1 and steel wheels for 800$

Man those tires just rock!!

I had my dunlop during a month where there was snow, and imho those tires suck in winter. Get winter tires and enjoy your car. That's my recommendation to you.

I'll pick up mine at Costco.. They're usually cheaper and the ones I had on my previous Pro were great.

Dealer in Cornwall ON said $600 for some basic old rims, and really good snowtires. Is this a good idea? are the dunlops bad in snow, or is it the rims and salt on roads i should worry about?
