Trying to finally decide on springs

This is to anyone who has dropped their car with the Eibach Pro kit (or any other for that matter). I finally have the money to get the Eibachs, and I was wondering if anyone has driven their car in the snow after their drop. I love the looks of the cars when it is lowered, but I really do not want my car to turn into a snow plow in the winter. Hopefully someone will be able to help me out! And while I'm at it, does anyone know where I can find a set for less than $216? That is the price that I got at Tire Rack. Thanks for any and all help!!

Scott,

Just dropped mine last night. All I can say is do it. I've had lowered cars here in Ohio winter, not bad. Just need to be a bit more carefull where you go.

Like I said at the meet, $200+tax from Discount Tire. That's about as cheap as you're gonna get.

Pics soon......

I just could not get over Bart's car (or Brendon's for that matter.) But Bart's car is silver, so that gave me a good impression of what mine would look like.

I need to take pics today (the sun is finally here!!!!!) Car looks wicked. It actually looks more like Brendon's drop, with the larger Yoko tires.

Good call Scott! You will not be dissapointed.

Jim, how long are you going to let everything settle in before getting an alignment? And anyone that wants to help, it looks like I am going to be getting the key to a shop with a lift next weekend! My dad will be out of town so I want someone to be there to call 911 when one of the springs takes my head off!

1 week. And use a spring compressor to remove the OE springs. You don't need one to install the Eibachs.

?

So when the suspension settles after it has been driven a while won't affect the immediate alignment after the install???

A common misunderstanding is that you need the alignment simply because of the increased negative camber after the drop. It is true that negative camber will increase with a strut based suspension such as that of a protege, but the need for the alignment is needed also becuase of the disassembly of the suspension to install the springs. Also you can magically gain noticable amounts of toe-in on protege's after lowering, which will eat tires faster than Tony Montana would snort a key...The camber will cause increased inside tire wear, but the toe-in and alignment adjustments unintentionally made during the install are just as much of a problem...

So you can safely drive a few hundred miles or so unless noticable pulling and highway driving issues are noticed right after the install...But I would not go more than 300 without an alignment, the springs will soften up a little depending on the brand but usually the break-in drop is so small it barely effects anything...

I am installing my Eibachs on Saturday and plan to get an alignment sometime in the middle of next week. By that time I will probably have only put 100 - 150 miles after the drop, so I think that I should be alright. I know why the alignment is needed, I just wanted to make sure that everything was in its place before I spent some more cash. I just didn't want to go too long and waste what tread I have left.

Thank you very much for the info though!!

I can't wait for the UPS man to come and knock on my door!!!!
