Which coilovers do you prefer???

My rear is about 0.5in lower then front....most lowering springs seem to lower the back more then the front.
Except for the tein kit but 2.0in is too low....looking for no more then 1-1.5 total drop....
I wanna drop front more then rear to balance out 0.5in diff...
So what are your suggestions on coilovers
and dont wanna spend alot like the tein and jic kits
dont race my car!!

you can also read my other post

assuming you are refering to a Protege5, the tein's lower 1.8 inchese in front and 1.4 in back. Balances nicely, or at least I hope so. I just ordered them...The sedan's lower 2", however...

Also the Eibach's lower about 1.4 in front and 1.2 in back which will also help out a little with the front rear offset. I never recommend coilovers like Ground Control's or Skunk2's, unless you have already upgraded the struts...

Do you have aftermarket wheels installed? You shouldn't be rubbing in the back with the stock suspension....

Lowering the car will make any rubbing much worse. That is a problem with wheel offset not the front/rear balance...

right there is your problem...You need new wheels, or possibly have a 2 or 3 millimeters machined off of your current wheels at a decent wheel repair center...

DO NOT lower your car before solving your wheel offset problem, you could risk cutting right through the sidewall of your tires. You said that it only rubs now with people in your backseats, which gives you some time to deal with it...If you lower it, they will rub all the time regardless of whether or not people are riding in the back...

so is the 40mm I now have a neg or pos offset......what is the stock offset......I dont understand how 3mm diff can cause my wheels to rub
and if people know this why is it that the wheels are sold for the car at all.

is there no possibility that it could be the struts gone bad

and one more thing they dont rub all the time.....when I hit bumps (with people in back) they rub thats it......they dont continuously rub

i don't know..........take a look at Rishie's Fitment Recipe

Cut + Pasted.....

Rishie's FITMENT RECIPE
Hello Gentlemen.

I had posted this on the other board a very long time ago. But knowing how loyal people are to a single board I've come to find out that several are not looking into this. So here it is:

THE MATRIX: 3rd Generation Proto's

Mazda Protege5 fitment guide

215/40/17; 215/35/18
-------------
7.0" +45 and higher
7.5" +48 and higher

205/40/17
-------------
7.0" +42 and higher; Barely making it
7.5" +48 or higher, the +45 still worries me with this width on a 205.

Mazda Protege Sedan
----------------------------
Can run 2 to 3 mm less offset than the Wagon. Appears to have a little more room under the fender. As we've got no problems with wheelguuruu's 19's at all.

BEWARE OF THE PASSENGER SIDE. IT will be the first to rub. hehe. Not as much negative adjustment on that side, even with camber bolts. Based on left hand drive. hehe.

Hope this helps everyone. Please feel free to call us as we will be stocking the real good ones, quality, appearance, weight, perfect fitment. Plus you'll get your forum/club deal and the sanctity of mind that the fitment has my blessing.

Be weary of the "local tire shop" as many have not done real time fitments prior to your consultation. Not even the manufacturers who create the fitment guide for the dealers have test fitted everything. It's based on patterns with fitments in the industry. Unfortunately, our cars veer off that line just slightly but enough to be very annoying and shitty when you just bought wheels that you were told fit only to have them rub.

We are a tuning shop and therefore specialize in certain performance oriented vehicles. Therefore do multiple fitments on the same vehicles with different wheels and so forth. We weigh them loaded and unloaded, tires and wheels. It's some good info to base your decisions on.

Thanks, Rishie

PLEASE READ IT SLOW AND TAKE NOTES. THIS IS A NO BULLSHIT POST. ALL OF THE INFO AND STIPULATIONS ARE INDICATED.

ok the 2000 ES-sedan
has a 45 mm offset
I now have a 40mm offset

I cant believe 5mm can cause my wheels to rub the fender with people in the back seat when I hit bumps

and if this is the problem..........I need to shave like 3mm off of my current wheels to correct the rubbing?????

or what about shaving the inside fender walls???
considering thats whats rubbing......not the actual fender.....its rubbing that black piece inside......what ever you call it....mud guard I guess
