It could be worse. The older ABS systems were a lot more invasive than the ones they use now. I can remember some older cars where the ABS would engage when it didn't need to and you would just kind of slide to a stop. I almost rolled into an intersection in my mom's Explorer because of that crap.

I don't think any of the manufacturer's are really pushing ABS in this class. Its kind of sad because the hardware isn't really that expensive for them (although they act like it is) and it really does save people from their bad driving (ever watched a moron do a hard stop in a non-ABS vehicle? not pretty).
