I specified it as an option on my car. I wanted that little bit of added safety since I have a child and since it came with the side impact air bags I had to have it. Lower insurance also.

Yup, it was the same way for me. I couldn't find any LX's or ES's in South Florida with ABS, and they couldn't explain why. I would have ordered one, but I didn't have the time to wait.

Dude, you should check out Fairbanks Mazda in Longwood (central Florida) they had a ton of P5's (well, a ton of P5s is actually is only one car) but they had like 40 or 50, and they must be dying to get rid of them. I would bet they still have one on the Lot with ABS.

No ABS here. I got my car during the final days of the 0% APR + $0 Down promotion my dealership had going. It was the second to last 2002.5 Protege that dealer had so it was really like this:

Me: What happen?!
Friend: Someone set up us the bomb! We get signal!
Me: WHAT!
Friend: Main screen turn on!
Me: It's you!
Dealer: How are you gentlemen? All your Proteges are belong to us! You are on your way to destruction!
Me: What you say?
Dealer: You have no chance to survive make your time! HAHAHA!

Hmmm, missing ABS - way to destruction.... missing ABS - no chance to survive... HM!

i was hoping that the mazdaspeed had ABS as an option. i'm really on the fence right now as to whether or not i want them for track use. anyone on the board do any professional racing or high performance driving and have an opinion on ABS at the track?

turns out that ABS is not a "popular" option in Florida. Non of the dealers ordered the cars with ABS, so I'm w/o it. I drove my brand new car home tonight and the brakes were excellent (great feel, no fade).

I think the production MSP's have ABS standard, but the test cars used in the magazines did not.

I don't do any professional driving but I do not prefer ABS. If the weather would create a situation where I needed the ABS to stay in control of the car, I would not even be in the car in the first place. I take a Jeep Wrangler out if it is snowing or icy. Plus if you do any track driving it would inhibit certain ways of driving that some people like. I love left foot brake drifts in light rain. ABS would not allow it. Or cornering very hard and jamming the brake quickly to get a nice bark and tiny slide from all four tires. I love that stuff. Just don't try it on a road you are not familiar with.

There are benifits of ABS though, obviously. Personally I am fine with out it.

Arrow ABS

U know, I went to a Mazda Dealer close to my house, and left $500 deposit for a Laser Blue P5 w/ABS and all optionals, and it is been 3 weeks and they can't locate a car w/ this options.
If any one knows anything about this ABS s... please let me know.
Otherwise I buy w/o....3 weeks waiting.... can u believe?...
Later.....

If you're willing to wait a couple of months you could probably custom-order your car straight from the factory just the way you want it...

I wish that ABS was optional in Canada
