Yep, I am a newbie.
I just bought my silver 02' ES a few weeks ago and love it. It alleviates some of the pain of my being forced to temporarily retire from motorcycle roadracing while I get my bills back under control.
Quick question though. Has anyone else noticed that the rear gets awful light under aggressive cornering? The steering is pretty twitchy (which I like) so I imagine that could just be me unsettling the rear, but I was wondering if anyone else has had similar issues.
I just ordered a AEM short ram and plan on getting a Racing Beat cat-back soon unless anyone here has other recommendations. That should be the extent of my mods as I fins that the stock ES is pretty peppy as it is and I just want a few more horses and a slightly more aggressive exhasut note. Of course it is not the 170+mph I am used to on the track, but this way I will keep out of trouble. = )

welcome to the board. i like the AEM product, but you should also check out the INJEN cai available. they're both quality companies. as for the racing-beat... good choice. only other thing you might want to look into, is maybe some suspension stuff if you like cornering and all that. you'll love the car any way you set it up.

I actually was considering the Injen CAI, but I sort of like the location of the AEM a little better because of all the rain we get here in Washington and I hear that the bypass valve for the CAI negates most all the gains the cold air intake adds. Although the Injen does look the business.
It is weird since I've spent the last 4 years of my life racing and tuning my supersport motorcycles. My 01' GSXR600 makes 113.1hp at the wheel with race fuel and now I have my protege to throw some money at. Racing is spendy though...usually about $7,5000-10,000 a year and I generally only win about 1/3 of that back in prize money, I do not plan on spending anywhere near that on my ES.

jhatfi, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net. There is a BIG fridge in the corner with just about anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. :{D
make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables....and take it easy.

Ahh...not mentioning that I will have to CUT a piece of the Injen, cause the CAI fits exactly in the compact hole.
Now im thinking twice on buying it.
What do you guys think???

Personally I don't have a bypass valve....and won't ever....where the filter is located you would have to be driving in a foot or better deep water to even get close to BOTTOM of the filter...much less suck up any water.....and I will NEVER drive my car off into standing water...never....I will just pull over and stop. After all...the seats lay back...and I can just take a nice nap if needed.
HOWEVER....if you decide to get one...you DON'T need to CUT the injen to install it...you simply remove the collar that attaches the MAF to the tube and install the bypass in its place.
