What isn't there to love about this car????

It is all the things everyone has said. We looked and researched for about 3 weeks (sounds impulsive but after living with a Ford Aerostar for 2 years - with a never ending leaking problem) we were through with domestic anything. The big three; Mazda, Toyota and Honda were the only ones on the final list. We had made a deal on the Civic Sedan (fully loaded - even Alteeza lights).

I promised Jayrox we would have a look at the Protege sedan - I took one look at the P5 and I WAS IN LOVE. We took one drive and backed out the Civic deal

It is our baby - the kids would be jealous if they and all their friends didn't think it was SOOO COOOL (not easy to impress teenage boys these days)

Take one for a test drive... you'll see why we are all such enthusiasts!!!

For me it was a combination of right price, right options, right reliablity track record, right performance, and great deal (cheap financing).

I also looked at Subaru Impreza TS Wagon, Focus Wagon, and Golf GL. None of them came close for me.

Lightbulb

I'm a starving student, so the 0.0% APR for 48 months, plus $500 cash back suckered me in. Oh it helps that it's an awesome car, too.

At first it was the Jetta (I had da' chedda') then i saw these really cool kayaks on the web & needed those too.

Hmmh.

Spend less for a car THAT COULD HOLD KAYAKS! Buy BOTH! Yeah!

Still had to be: cool, 5-spd, rooof rack, cool, <$17K, and low to the ground (Did i mention 'cool'?)...

Saturn SW? Nah (not cool/no 5-spd)

Focus Wagon? Nah (not cool/no 5-spd)

Subaru? (Cool, but not <$17K)

Honda? I hate honda/lemmings!

Hyundai? Couldn't (Actually i would've driven one - but not made in SW anymore)

The Mazda was skippy! LAFS (Love at first sight!) AND i could get a power sunroof AND a roof rack?! 2Good2Btru!

The spousal-unit saw the regular plain jane steenken' protoge and said, "Oh, i LIKE that". 'Considered.' I replied (Thinkin' Yeah. Right.) "Thank you for your input."

NOW she loves it & so does my 16 yr old (I just don't let 'em drive it if i can POSSIBLY help it!

Matrix? - I don't 'get it'...

I needed a more reliable daily driver than the crummy Chevy Cavalier wagon I picked up last winter. Since I play in a band and have to haul a lot of gear from time to time, I liked the cargo space in the wagon but hated the look. Enter the new breed of sport wagons.

Forgetting about looks or handling, the Protege5 was the best deal out there, featuring everything I wanted in the stock config (CD player, alloy wheels, keyless entry, a/c) with nothing that I didn't. 0.0% financing made it all the more attractive.

I loved the styling of the P5 better than anything else and the interior was one of the coolest I'd ever seen. After taking the 5-speed on a test drive, I didn't have to choose the P5...it chose me!
