whistling under hood

whistling under hood
For last couple of days I have heard "whistling: under hood-engine department. First I thought oil is old and is cold - so I changed it to Mobil1 synthetic 5W30. It is still there. Now is even warmer here in Toronto - cold weather is no reason. Itchy sound is everytime gone after 15 min of driving.
Finally I opened hood and it sound to me like water pump. Is that possible ( beacause it is gone after good warming ).
Can it be belt or should I have to lubricate somehow the pump?
Any advice appreciated.

would this be whistling that sounds like its coming from just below the windshield? If so then its b/c the sealing around your windshield is shot. Mazda should fix this for free...if you can get the sound to reproduce when at the dealer. If it's somethin else then I have no idea how to fix it.

it was there before oil change, cap is tight.
I realyy heard that from water pump now- so no windshield ( I hear that during starting on parking lot and next 10-15 minutes.
I am bad "noise" describer.
It sounds like when is something not lubricated properly and scratching something, and when I am listening with open hood and cold engine it is 90% water pump.Is there some sort of maintenance for it?
It hardly can be belt because sound is coming only from TOP part ( water pump) not from bottom part (alternator), so somewhwere there is something moved or not greased ( or some bearing? ).

sorry,sorry
just noticed from manual I bought that outside belt is for power steering and AC compresor. Noise sounds coming from front top part ( power steering pump?).
- Is it possible air inside system making noise in pump? I`v got enough liguid in POw.St.tank.
- AC compresor puli is not turning permanently only from time to time. I think that is normal , but can somebody confirm.
When push belt with finger looks apx. 1 cm moving down.
Thax in advance.

it looks like couple of guys have similar problem like me:

squeeling ( that is probably right description ) - is gone when driving longer, driving with higher rounds ( start back under 100 RPM) or sometimes when start AC compresor. I will probably give try to tight belt. Will see.
Any other ideas?

I tried "belt dressing" and it was even louder. I tried to tight belt(pow.steering,ac) - slightly quiter but now the sound is there nearly permanently with rounds under 1500.
What do you think about pully misalignment?
Is it possible to adjust pow.sterring pump to side?

You said that the "belt dressing" made it worse, I'd say you have a slipping belt. I don't believe in that belt dressing crap...if you need dressing you need a new belt. It could be that you needed to tighten the belts a bit, but maybe you should invest in a new one.
Need to know info for a good diagnosis...
How old is car?
How much milage?
How much milage since last tune-up/belt inspection or change?

Mazda Protege LX, 1.8, 78000 km, bought 2.5 month ago. Dealer said that everything was checked and tuned-up.
As for used car there was only 30 days warranty. Just this outside belt looks pretty new- this one has stripswith "spacers" evry 7-8 mm, inside belt has NO this spacers.
Since I bought it, I made 2500 km, this whistling/squeezing started like 2-3 weeks ago (500-700 km).
first 2 weeks it was gone after 10-15 minutes driving , now after "belt dressing it is there even after this period. I slightly tight belt ( sounds quiter, but permanent ).

can it be a turbo? j/k
i agree, belt dressin does not work. well, it does, for a day or so. after that it still whistles. if you change the belts and it starts whistling again pretty much right away then i would say that your pulleys are misalligned/out of balance and that causes extra tear/wear/whistling of the belt.
