WHAAAA!! Automatic.

Hi all.... been a while since i've been here. (i already know where the beer fridge is.. hehe)

My p5 is doing great... 12k on it and it r0x0rz!!

Only problem is... it's an automatic. Yea.. that's right... i got it in auto. My wife refuses to learn stick and insisted we get an auto.

Oh well.... what's done is done.

Thing is... this car is puting a real strain on our relationship... and i feel spending some bucks on some mods would help my marriage. (yea... i know... i should be a marriage counciler...NOT! lol)

My question is... what kinda performance mods can i do to it that will make a difference?

--also.. can you guys make any rim and tire suggestions?
I want something better than the dunlops my car came with. (they tend to give a bit on tight turns when it's damp out. Which lessons my confidence... thus reducing my 'machismo' level)

Any help is greatly appreciated!! =)

Don't worry bro, you're not the only one kicking yourself. I really wish my car was a stick, I'd love it a lot more if it was.

As far as performance mods, you could get the Injen CAI. I don't think the AEM short ram intake will fit on the 2.0 automatics because the tranny gets in the way. Mazda makes a OEM "Sport Exhaust", Bosal makes a cat back, not sure what else as far as exausts. FS-ZE intake and exaust cams add about 10HP max. Now if you REALLY want power, slap a turbo on that baby!

I would focus on handling first.
I think that is more important.

put some 215/40's on there, they will fit, i have some. Handles much much better. They run about 250 a set on ebay. You can do a cheap intake for 20 bucks. Goto autozone or pep boys and buy a cone filter. Remove stock intake box and put the filter directly on the mass flow censor.(MAKE SURE you put the temp censor out of the way, tape it to the mass flow censor b/c if you don't, it will make its way over to the engine and melt, causing you a check engine like and 45 bucks). Its cheap, but it works great. Next get on ebay and buy you a muffler for like 50-60 bucks. Take it to a muffler show and for about 80-90 bucks have them put all new bigger exhuast pipe with the muffler. If you don't atleast cut off the resonator, at about 4500 RPM, your exhaust will some to disapear. Spend 15 bucks on a couple of cans of 1500F engine paint and paint your valve cover and calipers. There are alot of theards on how to do these. OH!! and replace the CRAPY!!!!!!!!!! spark plugs with some boush +4. If you don't want to spend that much just get the boush +1, they work really well to, i noticed a difference. Eiback springs are 225 and the camber kits at 28 a pair. If your car isn't tinted, that is a kind of an expensive mod, but it helps the looks out ALOT.

yeah the +4 really aren't worth the money. Bosch platinum is just as good on our cars. No they don't add horsepower but if you had a car that has NO2 or Turbo you might want to get them just to make you sure you don't miss fire. Anyway the platinums do feel alot better than the NGK. Or it could all be mental but i put in some NGKs after runnin on Platinums for a while and it just didn't feel right.

agreed on the plugs and camber kits. jesse is the suspension master, so i wont go into that realm. but plugs, +4's are stupid. especially for FI, or N20. Think about it, what happens when you're detonating? do you really want more than one (you dont want any actually) strap floatin around inside there when they all blow off? plugs do not add hp, or performance. some plugs just make it "safer"(i guess thats the word i want to use) to run with certain modifications. Stick with the OEM plugs.

spark plugs don't "add" HP, they only help idle and smooth reving. The reason for the camber kit is b/c if you drop a car 1.5 inch, you will have some negative camber which will make your tires wear unevenly and you won't get much life from the tire. Go 20k miles on neg camber and see how much tire you have left. Also if you have negative camber, the tire is not supporting the weight of the car equally causing it to handle worse. If a tip broke off a spark plug and caused a motor to blow, i'd be taking it up with the manufactor. High compression vehicles with high horse power come with boush +4 stock from the factor so they must not be that bad. But hey, to each his own.

spark plugs will only add hp right after you put them in and then in two days they will be right back to where you were at with your old ones.
if you really wanted to get down and dirty with them you can file off the tip over the top of the electrode and have them tip on the side for more fire power, alot of dragracers do this but then again they are changing plugs each run.

I opted for the Ractive shorty intake and the exhaust. It sounds throaty at both ends and yet maintains the same hp gains across the Pro 5's as other more expensive Intakes and exhuasts. The amount of money to make a auto go is retarded. If you are going to fork out the $250+ for a CAI from Injen on an automatic you may as well trade the car in for a stick. The same for the exhaust. For $350+ you can get a catback that may give you 3-5 hp only in Higher RPM levels.
I went the cheap way out and the wife still gets her auto and I get a basic sport auto, it all depends on the driver.

Now you are in bullshit territory. I know the 5.3L GM and the 4.6L Ford do not. They use standard platinum plugs.
