Weld hood scoop or wait for hood?

Hi all!!
2101 miles and loving every minute of it! I'm thinking of a major
paint job but want to get a scoop in my hood before I spend the money on painting my current hood. I haven't found any metal hoods with scoops being developed yet -- does anyone know of any? I'm thinking of just cutting+welding a hood scoop into the production hood (2002 p5) -- does anyone have any experience with this? The way I see it:

welding: can do it NOW, save money
getting "professional hood": more professional look

So it seems since I don't want carbon fiber, welding's the way to go. Anyone else done this? Any comments? Any regrets??
Thanks!
Josh
