I think 2001+ they just decided to put the 2.0 liters in all the proteges, I guess to cut the costs. Beforehand the ES had a more powerful engine than the other models.
Not so in Canada, at least. The base Protege ("SE") still has the 1.6L 103 HP 4-banger.

It does not. The 2.0L cars have slightly larger swaybars than the 01+ 1.6L, but that's the only difference in the suspension of any North American 01+ Pro other than the strut brace on the P5 (and, of course, excluding the MP3 and MSP).

The ES (Canadian GT) and P5 *feel* stiffer due to the lower-profile tires, but everything else is the same as the LX.

hey damaster, another Montreal here, got my protege at 2-20 also, got it in december, a silver lx with the gt package, i was gonna go for the es but my dad told me that the high performance 16 inch tires don't last long and are alot to replace, plus i like my grey interior more, but i am gonna get the leather wrapped shift know cause i don't like the little ball. another thing that's great about the lx-gt is the mags, i have yet to see a car with them on the road, they are very nice, i have winter tires on steel rims now but when spring comes i'll be very happy to put on the nice mags

VPower, I went to Gareau Mazda on Papineau. It's just below Sauvé.

Not the biggest showroom, but I did get to sit in the Miata, as well

Oh, ok...

for my P5, i went to Domaine Mazda(pointe aux tremble), president mazda (up north) and Delisle Mazda....

i still cant believe how far a dealers goes to force you to buy as soon possible...

The guy at President Mazda told me that he couldnt drop a penny on the 2003 P5...it was a word from his manager and blablabla....

Domaine Mazda was ready to bargain.....but the dealer was a little bit far from my home....

and I went back to Delisle Mazda and I make an offer...and that was it!!

adn the dealer is on my way to work

"Mag" is an old-school generic term for any aftermarket alloy wheel. It's the 60's-70's equivalent of using the word "rim" nowadays, although "rim" is commonly used to refer to wire wheels, which were usually called "wires" in the 60's. I'm sure that he didn't actually think that the wheels are magnesium.

Just nitpicking.

But it's all good, as I was about to reply the same. Old school terminology, gotta love it.
