Cool Test drove the P5

So I know all of you pretty much love your P5's. We were at the VW/Mazda dealership (MP3Steve and I) yesterday, and I got him to test drive the P5! I told him that all of you seem more than satisfied with your cars, but we just wanted a quick overview of what YOU think some of the pro's/con's to your car are.

Already got the mp3 obviously, and we LOVE that car! He's going to be selling his VW soon. Also, do you think it would make more sense to wait and see/drive the MazdaSpeed before making any final decisions?

As for the test drive, the P5 really kicked ***. He was impressed at the pick up that it does have, being that it is a large sport wagon. Any opinions are welcome! Thanks!!

I say wait for the MS Protege to come out in September before making a decision. I know I am!

large sport wagon??
it's actually shorter then your MP3, it only feels big on the inside.
i love mine, although i rarely get to drive it. it's my wife's car. i haven't found any cons for it. if you like it then buy it. there is nothing else out there in it's class that looks and drives as good as it does.

i.
LoL Wasn't going for a jab or anything. It most definitely looks bigger on the inside as well as the outside, sits a little higher, etc. I do like it, glad to hear you don't have any cons for it.

Cons??

The OEM shifter is junk, the roof rack whistles more than it oughta, and the door lock buttons are in a bad place - You wind up accidently locking yourself in just about any time you drive with the windows down.

Pros??

The best looking, most fun to drive sport wagon anywhere for ~$17,500

I'm kind of thinking that if I got it I'd remove the rack anyway, and the locks are in the same spot in the mp3 lol, it drives me batty! That really was bad planning on Mazda's part

problem one...shitty stock shifter...EASILY replaced with the B&M short shifter...cost about $140

problem two...whistling roof rack.....easily solved....NO COST, either remove it...or CRANK UP THE TOONS a little more. :{D

problem three....the door locks....hell, my "window down" driving season is so damn short....so I won't complain.....lol its either too cool and wet or JUST TOO DAMN HOT!!!

I have absolutely NO complaints about our P-5s.....they are the best cars I have ever bought.....in all departments.... :{D

Hey guys, thanks for your replies. But I have a question. Is it hard to find performance parts for them. I haven't realy looked into it yet.

no harder than finding performance parts for ANY protege....seeing as how nearly everything interchages.

so to more directly answer your question...NO its not hard.

cons- when my gf drives my car, every guy in town looks at her. no wait, wrong smiliey... lol

pro's- it's bad@ss. it's sporty w/o being "sporty".

how long b4 you sell? if you can wait, maybe you should see what comes out. that way you won't buy the 5 and the week after say, "crap, this new mazda6 (or whatever) is bad@ss and we're stuck with this awesome, fun-to-drive, sport wagon..." lol

i seriously cant find anything wrong with it my self.... sure there are a few things i wanna do to it.. but thats aftermarket.

it may sit alittle high, but a good set of coilovers or just some springs to drop it about an inch or so would fix that. the stock wheels arent great, but not too bad, aftermarket fix for that of course. the exhaust is well a pea shooter, but thats an easy fix.

the shifter, i see no problem with it, but a B&M short shifter would be great, maybe even a new shift ****.
oh the stereo, well it isnt too great.... but thats just another thing to work on.

but from the factory, completely stock, this car is great, im still stock and love it. and the lack of power, well i notice no lack of power, well except when i race a faster car of course

youll love it! trust me, and havin that mp3, well what a beautiful set of cars!

I think you should get the P5, since you have a MP3 already. The Mazdaspeed and the MP3 look very similar. Plus, your new dog will love the room in the P5 , my dogs do.
