Not if you've got a 1.6 liter. The P5 has a 2.0

btw MP5 is a misnomer for Protege5, there's only one true MP# car, that being the Mazda MP3

*ducks from MP5 owner flames, or is that gunfire?

The Protege FAQ is an excellent source of info on your engine...highly recommended reading...

A CAI will work fine, but don't expect huge power gains. Generally it has been accepted 'round here that it will improve throttle response and give the engine a "throatier" sound..

Oh, and ZoomZoomH, I have something for ya :

I will address your direct question a little different...and a bit more complete...

IF you take a Protege, a Protege5 and a MP3, which all have the same 2.0L motor...then YES, the engine compartments are nearly the same....the only difference being that on the MP3 there is a special valve cover cover...and the color of the strut bars are different if so equipted.

as for the CAI you are looking at.....you must ensure the size of the engine that it was intended for.....as the 2.0L engine Injen CAI is a multi-peice (2) intake...where as the intake for the smaller engines is a ONE piece intake....

so in other words....if the intake you are looking at is for a 2.0L protege...it will NOT work on your 1.6 L motor.

Cold Air

A buddy of mine had a Protege Sedan and I just bought his Cold Air Intake (Ractive) and put it on my Protege 5 So I think it'll work

I know the AEM short ram for auto is the same one they sell for earlier 1.6 (or maybe 1.8).

And I agree, I drive a P5 NOT an MP5. The MP3 is a specific model. Just as adding a few Mazdaspeed stickers does not make your car a MSP.
