yeh, just go real easy on the clutch and make sure you rev
at least 1500rpm from a standstill before you softly engage
1st gear at around 1100rpm. then you'll be ok...and your
clutch will thank me for it later. dont let others give
you crap about how the wrx clutch sucks...its the driver.

oh yah, make sure all your engagements are smooth...no
lurching. one lurch will require 4 smooth engagements to
reset the clutch and flywheel contact area.

yep, if you can drive a wrx, you can pretty much drive them all.

I suppose on a good note, if I can drive my WRX smoothly, I should be able to drive ant MT fairly well

I do not like the look of the 2004 WRX as much as the 2002. I actually like the bug-eye look of the 2002 and the larger fog lamps. However, I prefer the rear lights on the 2004.
I also heard that the 2004 WRX's have a black-box that records your driving style(RPMs during shifts, etc...). Apparently now the SUbaru dealership can read these little black box computers and decide whether to void your warranty if it looks like you race or dump the clutch at high RPMs. This is only what I've read on WRX forums though, it may not be true.
I have also heard of this ECU "cops" on some newer performance cars. The article I read in stated that they could not be used to void any warranty pieces as long as the car was driven within manufacturer specifications...So in other words they couldn't void the warraty on the engine if the cop shows that the engine was pushed hard during some hard driving. In the manufacturers defense, they were said to be used to simply allow recommendations to be made by service personel to the vehicle owner on driving habits to prevent future problems...also to help moniter tune up times and intervals...

I wouldn't worry about the infamous "black box" to screw you if something goes wrong. The car was desinged as a reliable performance car, and also can withstand the abuse from new owners not use to driving them and owners that push the car hard constantly (at least they can withstand it as long as the warranty is in affect). also from what I read Subura was not listed in the list of manufactures that use them. The new EVO supposedly uses a similar device. BMW, which has something like that now integrated into 3 series ECU's already, Mercedes, VW's European GTi's will be employing them soon as well as Porsche Boxsters. As far as Japan, most of the boxes would be Japanese exclusive meaning most North American models, excluding the Mistsu EVO, will not have them yet...

Shawn, nice choice in buying the WRX....especially silver! That is the car I will definitely be buying when I'm done with my Protege.
Post pictures when ever you get around to modifying it...actually even if you keep it stock!
I to have been know to surf the WRX message boards...and find myself drooling over the picture posts.
