Timing Belt on 2002 LX2.0
Forgive me for asking this but I have a 2002 Protege LX2.0 with the FS engine.
I've read a lot of conflicting info in that the timing belt should be done at 60,000kms. Yet the manual from protege5.ugly states inspect at 96,000 and replace at 160,000.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
We just bought the car a few months back and it has 92,000kms on it right now and I'm just trying to get my info right.
Thanks for the help.

My owners manual for my P5 says to inspect at 60K miles, and replace at 105K miles. So what ever that converts to in kilometers is your answer. I would say it's about time to inspect it. 60K kilometers is way too early to chang it though.
And welcome to the forum!

I changed mine at 70k miles, i was starting to see cracking in the belt so i figured it was time to change it. When you inspect it, if you see any kind of cracking or deterioration of the belt, change it. If not leave till you have to cause changing a timing belt is no small task and it will take some time. I did mine and it took my car out for two days, probably would have been less if i had all the tools i needed to do it, but it was still a pain in the ***
