Sunroof problem

Did anyone has problems with sunroof on P5?
Mine jams when I do "slide" after "tilt". It goes fine on second try.
It was fixed once-it didn't work at all and it seems that Mazda did shitty job-it was noisy at first. Now it jams.
I'll try another dealership, but just curious if anyone else had this happening.
Thanks
Alex

I'm a bit confused. I take it you mean that the moonroof is already vented open using the tilt. Then you are pressing tilt-close to close the moonroof, and then using slide-open to allow the moonroof to slide back into the roof?

You cannot go from a tilted open moonroof to a fully slid-open moonroof in one motion. There will always be the stop after the roof closes from its vent position. Another press is required to start the sliding motion from there.

I think I know what he is describing and I had this issue on my old 92 LX. If you have the sunroof open in the tilt position then close it, it will not slide back after being closed from the tilt position. The felt on the glass was a little too tight against the body and would bind after closing from the tilt position. To get it to open in the slide position, I would usually have to try to open in the slide position, close then try to open it again. If that didn't work Iwould physically have to push down on the top of the roof while holding the slide button to get it to release. Confusing? Yes... Pain in the ***? That too...

I have a 02 Pro ES. My moonroof goes from the tilt to the open position with one touch of the right (open) control. I notmally use the tilt when I park in the parking garage at my work and open the moonroof when I leave for the day.

This has worked perfectly for me every time. In fact, I was surprised when I first got the car and was figuring out the various control buttons. I didn't think it would close the tilt and open the moonroof in a one button operation.

I'd have the dealer work on it again. It's easy enough to check out a couple of the new cars on the lot to see how they work. Even a service technician can understand that you want yours to work like those other ones on the sales line. Might avoid the "it's working as designed" bull the service people tend to give you when they can't seem to fix something.

Mine jams too. But only on cold mornings. I think the metal rubber is binding on the sealing surface. It will tilt but won't drop down into the recess to slide back. I think a little silicone lubricant will fix the problem. If you wait till the car warms up it will work. Warm sunny mornings no problem either.

Stocker.

To clarify:
Tilt
Close
try to slide-jam
Close
try to slide-OK
Close
try to slide-OK
Close
Tilt-OK
Close
try to slide-jam.....
Weather is ruled out-it's hot and it makes mechanical noise.
I WILL take it to dealer and won't take my car back until sunroof is flawless. Last time some ******* was working on it-he left nice fingerprints all over roof liner. I complained, BTW and I will not take my baby back to them.

What you described is the same sequence I had problems with on my 92. I haven't seen it yet on my P5. I used to just clean the opening and the seal around the glass then wax/polish the painted surface where the glass seals. That usually did the trick and would last about a year before the routine had to be done again.
