can mods reduce high revs at highway speeds?

can mods such as intakes and mufflers reduce high revs at high way speeds?

driving to vegas takes about 4-5 hours... keeping a speed of 85-90 mph requires 3800-4100 rpm at 5th gear....

will mods reduce the rpm at the same speed?

becaues if it does then does it mean that it will be better for the engine in the long run as it will be doing less work keeping up the same speed?

My intake helps. It allows the engine to rev at 2700rpm at 60mph from 3000rpm, or so I see.

I'm confused...

Are you guys driving automatics?

If you are driving 5spds then your tranmissions gears will determine your rpm and that is a fixed component. No upgrade will make your rpm at whatever speed change (except changing gears in your tranny).

If you can live with little speedo error, then increase wheel diameter-put higher aspect ratio tires on, for example. It may be effective for few hundred rpm. I used to run 50 series in the summer and 65 series in winter, there was some difference.
No engine mods will change rpm at given speed.

Excellent suggestion Alex!!!

They could put a rocket booster on the roof and put the car in neutral as well but your idea is a litte bit cheaper.

The ONLY thing that will reduce RPM's is to change the final drive ratio. You can do that by using larger tires, but only to a small extent. You could change the final drive ratio (ours is 4.105:1) or change the 5th gear ratio if you can find a gearset. I've only been able to find lower gear ratio final drives so far. Still looking for a taller 5th gear ratio.
