as a matter of fact i filled 15.6 gallons (topped off) no i didnt spill it, she was thirsty, it was definitly over 15 and a half i just rounded, didnt meen to cause such a fuss. I have a 2003.5 mp5 dont think its differnt from everyone else's. The capacity says 14.5 and i fit 15.5 thats a whole gallon more, but the point of the story was that no light came on.

JUst for kicks im gonna run it out again and fill it up and take a pic

I let it run that low, that way the sediment doesn't build up. Get it little by little rather than in one shot when you don't have your eye on the gauge and the next station isn't for another 50miles.

The water mixing with the fuel and getting sprayed into the engine is more of a concern than rusting the tank.

You can tune the Blazer. My 78 K-5 with a 400 had more than 2x your fuel economy, even with the 4.10 gears.

Am I the only one who has a hell of a time getting that last gallon in the tank? From the time it first kicks off, I can get over a gallon more into it, but about 1/10th at a time. Seems to be at any gas station too. Hyper-active vapor dealie or what?

When it clicks off, STOP. How easy is that?

Okay, maybe in CA the "vapor dealie" is a little more sensitive than elsewhere. Regardless, you don't need to "top it off". First off, you risk overflowing. You also don't want to top it off becuase there's a charcoal canister built into the tank that also helps with emmissions. When you overfill, that canister gets saturated and rendered useless.

The amount of water compared to fuel wouldn't be very high, so it would still combust, not as completely, but it would just evaporate the water and send it out the exhaust. In the gas tank the water just sits there, rusting and eating away.

Yes, it'd still combust, but it could also run like crap. Modern tanks are more corrosion resistant than tanks of the past: coatings, plastics, etc.

?Bulb Fried?

It might be that the low fuel warning light bulb burned out. Stranger things than that can happen with our buggies...

Only trouble is, you have to pull the instrument cluster out to check & replace it.

Have Fun!

Me, I know the dummy I really am & set one of the trip odometers at each fill up. I start thinking of filling it up @ 260 to 280 miles.

My Blazer's got a 401 stroker w/4.11 gears and 33" tires. I get about 6-8 mpg around town, maybe about 10 or 11 on the highway. Thank god the Pro gets 30 mpg.
