Shifting into 3rd w/ P5

Have any of you had problems shifting in 3rd ? It's the 2nd time this week that 3rd gear doesn't engage (grinding noise)eventough the clutch is pushed to the floor !!!!
Any ideas of the problem?

Thx.

if this car is fairly new....I would be in the dealer in a heart beat.

it could be as simple as the clutch needs adjustment....then again....it could be something serious in the tranny.

Ok people, LEARN HOW TO SHIFT. If you know how to shift learn how to spot a problem with your car. No matter how new or not broken in a car is, IT WILL NOT GRIND WITH PROPER SHIFTING! Think about what you are saying before you say it for god sake. GET YOUR CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. Or learn how to shift. Its all you have to do. **Note: hardest gear people find to shift into...3rd** Maybe it isnt a coincidence.....

Damn Mazdaspeedracer...speak your mind why don't you?

I was about to say I have a similar concern with my brand new P5 but now..........well hell I figure you'll just flame me....

Theman seems to have a similar issue too...maybe, just maybe it is a break in thing.

Does a new P5 have a "dog eared gearbox"? Was i talking about anything other that a P5? NO! So shut up. And so it is harder to pull straight down than up and over without anything to push against(like 5th).....makes sense to me!

I think Mazdaspeedricer is disrespecting your authoritae. Anyway my third gear was a little troublesome at first too. But it worked itself out I guess. Haven't had any problems since the first oil change.

Hmmm...im not trying to be funny, i dont recall making any silly happy faces and saying "LOL" at any time. We are talking about stock trannys here, if you are going to take every word i say at take it to the extreme seriousness and word it to your advantage thats fine. Im talking about shifting fast, not grandma style. The shift from 1st to 2nd is a straight line with the left side of the gearbox to "rest" against. The shift from 3rd to 4th is straight down. The shift from 4th to 5th is bery simple with the right side of the gearbox to "rest" against. So the shift from 2nd to 3rd, where there is nothing to "rest" agaisnt and is right between 1st and 5th....thats not the most "difficult" gear to shift to? Makes sense to me! Of course any competent driver can handle this, but if you are grinding a gear on a regular basis, there is a better chance of it being that one that any other. Sorry, i have driven a few new cars in the last bit test driving and all....dont recall any grinding gears, but hey, maybe its just my luck huh?

Well ok, i wasnt talking about stress on the tranny, i was talking about dificulty(as if there is any anyway) on the driver. This was OBVIOUS in my post. But i guess that wasnt obvious enough. Ill try to paint things out more clearly in the future. Good to know we were both right then i guess.

Ok, i have said lights that i put in that are brigher...are brighter(lets not argue about that one anymore, you know neither of us will agree with the other) and then i said the "most challenging" shift is from 2nd to 3rd...which you did back up after i explained it. Thats the only 2 points i have fought for tonight(that and the fact that magnetic car bras, hippocrites and fake plastic floor mats/seat covers bought at Walmart dont improve a car). Could you show me where i have made it clear that i think i am a car "guru" or where i have said i am an amazing driver? Thanks in advance!

Lightbulb

Believe it or not ....this was healthy...I learned somethings from the thread....TheMan....thanks you made me feel better about my 3rd gear grind....

Mazdaspeed....well, hmmm...I guess I now know why all my years in a dirt track super stocker makes sense too...I never ground those gears either.

I guess it got off track from the original question...

Thanks to all of you
