RustCheck - should i?

I just picked up my 2003 MP5, love it, thanks for the warm welcome!

I live in Southern Ontario (Toronto) where they use lots and lots of salt on the roads.

I was wondering if i should get the RustCheck done right away, wait a year then get it done, or not at all.

I know they drill small holes in the doors/rocker panels etc to pump the RustCheck into which kinda sux.

Should i get it done? and when?

Rust Check or Krown are definitely the only way to go. I've had every car I've owned for the last 20 years done annually. Creeps into seams, electrical connections, locks, etc. so it protects more than just the body panels. Makes a car easier to work on in a few years because nuts, bolts & fasteners are not rusted up. The stuff really makes a difference after several years, when you look at the rust on another car of the same year & model and compare it to yours. Don't worry about the drilling holes issue; they do a neat job and it looks professional when finished. It's the only way to get the good stuff into all the seams where moisture collects.

I heard that we should wait a year before having it done because anyway Mazda (and others too) has some kind of rustproof done to their cars before they leave the factory.

Is that true ?

The factory rustproof isn't pretty good and I wouldn't wait a year. For example VW's are also proofed by the factory and they recommend not to do any aftermarket rustproofing for first 6 years. But definitely, if it's done by professionals it all worth the money.

I guess i'll do like every other cars I owned, i'll have it done asap. Especially here in Eastern Canada, it's really worth the money!

Try asking about the rust inhibitor module from the dealer. It's guarranteed for life, cost about $200 more and you can install it on another car when you decide to buy a new one.

hey Red, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Zirguy, I'm also from southern Ontario and would highly recommend Krown rust proofing. I get it applied every fall. The A.P.A. (automobile protection association) recommends Krown over Rust Check based on consumer feed back.
Nice thing is the price stays the same every year.

Around montreal?

This treand is old but why start a new one.

I there, i'm picking up my brand new pro es next tuesday.
My question is if anyone in the Montreal area can help me compare places for rust proofing. I've been to (antirouille à l'huile métropolitain) before. Now my opinion is that i'm better off with the oil treatement, it can be more messy but it will not block the drainage holes. This as happen on my brother's car and my civic once I got the non-drip treatment the water in the door would stay there longer. Any input and other opinions would be welcome.


Also to anybody who's looking to buy the Gauges rings for DaveB... GO FOR IT! he and is wife Kelly are a joy to do buiness with. just ordered the brushed version yesterday can't wait to see how they look.. to think of it, can't wait to get my car..

Oh yes before I foget, I live in south shore montreal were they salt the streets till they dry up. and I bought the car for long term plans.

i'm from toronto too...
i've had rust check do my pro '00 and they left a mess. my foot pedals were covered with oil and i had to stop my car and wipe them dry. even my steering wheel was slippery from the stuff!
it's quite messy so beware!
the drilling of holes makes me uncomfortable too.

mazda applies an undrebody rust proof coat that is suppose to last a number of years. thats for about $500.
i'm still undecided what to do to my pro5 at this point...should i go with krown(not rust check-they left too much of a mess) or have my dealership apply their underbody coat?

which is the best for my car? i dont mind paying extra $$$$$ as long as i get my car well protected.

I picked up my car a little over 2 months ago and like 3 days after I had it I went and got it done by Krown. I prefer them over Rust Check although I've never had any of my cars done by them. My dad used to be involved in the company with a few of his friends and something happened and now they all work for Krown.

I guess I'm biased in a sense but I got my car done for 99 bucks cash and they did a real nice job and I just had to let the car drip for a couple days. The interior was spotless.

Plus as long as you get it coated annually it has a lifetime warranty on it. Doesn't cover every form of rust of course but I think its better than the dealership.

I got my P5 undercoated at the dealer ($139) option, which I got him to throw in with a block heater at no cost or I wouldn't buy the car. I had all my previous cars under coated and on the mazda I couldn't even find the oil plugs in the doors and body, I though they screwed me on the doors and hatch until March when it started to warm up and the oil started seeping out from the bottoms of the doors and hatch. Although messy looking I was happy to see that. It's definetely good to get done as soon as possible.

You guys also might want to look into counteractrust.com it's a module that put a negative charge on the vehicle to molecularly prevent rust from forming, and you can transfer it from vehicles.

That's what I was talkin' about. It's a little module they install in the back of the engine compartment and sends a negative charge throughout the entire car. It's about $800 or so and has a lifetime guarrantee. Not bad considering if you rustproff your car annually. At first I was skepitical but a few months ago I was watching some car show and they were talking about it.
