Question Regarding PR5 head lights..

Hi!

I got several questions for experienced PR5 owner. I would like to know how does the white head lights (What do they actually call? Xenon light?) would go with the fog light? (Any pictures?) Hence both are in different colors. Also, do most of you PR5 drivers out there drive with the fog light on? Do using the fog light everytime cut down the life for the fog light?

Answer are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

James

Hey nightowl

Where did you get your APC headlights from ? and how much are they ? Also since they are 100W will they be too bright (I mean blind the oncoming traffic) or burn out quickly ?

Thanks

Nice picture!

Sorry I'm very new to this kind of stuff..
I assume the watts would matter, the higher would melt the glass head lights more quickly? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Also, your 55 watts PIAA super white is not the stock that came with the car?
Lastly, how would I know which kind of bulb will fit on PR5 w/o damaging the glass?

Thanks for your reply, greatly appreciated

It should answer some of your questions.

I've been told by the service manager at my dealer, that w/overwatt bulbs cause more heat in the lamp, thus increasing the chance of condensation, which increases the heat in the lamp further. This increased amount of heat will make the bulb hotter inside as well. If you're lucky, then the filament just burns out quicker. If you're unlucky, the glass bursts and you have to clean it out. Fun. Although, I don't know of anyone that had their bulb burst cuz of this. I just heard this from the service manager at my dealer.

Why?? Our fog lights are so poorly aimed and designed, it doesn't cause a problem to oncoming traffic. What is your reasoning behind not using them?

Our headlights have plastic lenses, overwatt bulbs can cause them to melt.
Overwatt bulbs can also cause a short in your wiring harness, or even melt the plug for the bulb. The overwattage bulbs draw more power through wires that were designed for less power. That extra power causes extra heat for the wire and causes melting.

personally I drive with my fog lights on ALL the time...the more light on the front....the more easily someone may see you...and possibly avoid an accident...

I also ride a motorcycle...and when you are out there on two wheels and don't have a cage around you....you turn invisible for some reason....I have driving lights on my harley and they NEVER get turned off....and it HAS saved me more than once.

You are correct. I had placed 100watt bulbs in my fog light sockets on a car I had in high school. Three days later the lights didn't turn off when I turned the car off. Shortly after that I smelled something burning. The wiring in the dash for the factory switch couldn't support the load and melted together. Lesson learned. If you use a higher wattage bulb than recommended, direct wire the lighting to the battery through a fuse and relay. It's easier to wire it in before than to replace wiring in the dash afterward.

Don't use higher wattage bulbs, your wire harness WILL melt. If you want to go higher wattage, use relays and thicker gauge wire. Or just get some real HIDs. I've got 6000K HIDs and PIAA plasma yellow foglights in my MP3.

Shawn,

Which HID brand or system are you using ? I have been thinking about putting it on my p5, but don't know which brand gives the best result. And where and how much did you buy them ?

Thanks a lot

Zacky

Most cars on the road not using HID lights are typically 55watt low beams and 80 watt highs. You can get bulbs that are 80 watt lows and 100 watt highs, but like the guys said, be careful with those. You can also normally upgrade the fog lights, I don't know what the watts are on the P5, but my eclipse came with 35 watt which I would imagine is typical for most cars.
