question about splash sheilds

Um I'm not sure if they are splash shields, if not i hope you all know what i mean. under the engine there are plastic shields, Are these needed? Mine were damaged a long time ago, when my sister still owned the car. She was parking and scrubbed on the curb or something who knows. I will probably need new ones anyway with the msp/p5 bumper. So the question is are the plastic splash shield's need is there an alternative to them?

i've thrown all mine out...the only ones I still have are the wheel well shields. I'm a big fan of removing dead weight and clutter under the hood. I also have the coolest (temperature) engine bay of any other protege owner I know.

nah, unless you drive dirt roads frequently or splash puddles then you'll be fine.
