Protege MP3-the MP3

Hello all. One of the local used car lots has a Laser Blue MP3. Its been sitting on his lot for many, many months. I think taht the MP3 player has been stolen. I have no idea how many miles it has or how it runs but I am interested in looking at it on Monday.

Question: If the MP3 player has been stolen, how much should that deduct from the value of the car (provided everything else checks out)?

Thanks

at least $300, and make sure that the sub is in the trunk too....that is another common thing to DISAPPEAR....

the head unit may only be worth 300 bux but when you take the car off the lot, especially one that has been there for a few months, you could probably get him to drop it 1000 bux just so he can get rid of inventory.

Remember when your buying a car don't tell him your best offer. Then you have nothing to bargain with. Whatever the sticker price is talk to the guy like its worth at best 2 grand less than the sticker than work your way up.

The guy is asking $15,900 which seems waaaay off the reservation, even if it had the MP3 player. Oh well, at least now I see why it has been sitting on his lot for sooo long.

$15,900 is a total ripoff if you consider the fact that the car sold new for $18,500. 10K sounds about right.

10k? Whoa man! Don't short guess the resale so much. Kelly Blue Book retail on the MP3 is approx $13,800 - $14,500.

Hell, last time I checked the TRADE-IN on my P5 it was $12k+, even with 27,000mi.

If you pay KBB retail for a used car you are getting screwed.

Granted, KBB is overstated... but its not that far off. All I'm sayin is that there's no way an MP3 is only worth $10k.
To compare a similar value, I bought my 2000 Celica GT in June of 2000 at a sticker of $18,500. 1 year later, in june of 2001, I traded that car in for $13,500 (actually it may have been higher than that). I know the dealer sold it for AT LEAST $14k. Given the nearly exact same factory sticker, plus the fact the MP3 is a specialty ltd. model, the MP3 should have similar used resale value at 1 yr of age.

KBB Retail

Is supposed to reflect the average ASKING price for a used car by dealers, not what they actually sell for which is often thousands less. If the KBB retail is about $14,000 and this dealer is asking almost $16,000 he is $2000 over the average asking price. If the car has been sitting on the lot for half a year, he should be happy to take a loss on it to get rid of it, which would put the price somewhere below wholesale (whatever that is).

KBB is bull ****. go to NADA and the car will be around 11,000 to 12,500. edumds.com has it listed at 12,750.

EXACTLY. He probably overpaid for the vehicle at auction or on trade-in and is afriad to take the hit on it.

the only book that really matters is NADA Black Book...the MP3 isnt even listed though, but a fully loaded 2001 ES only books at $9500 retail...wholesale is only like $8500..so actually the MP3 should only be $11,500 max....I DO THIS EVERY DAY,BOOKING OUT CARS IS A BIG PART OF REPOING THEM!! so blow me off if you want, but I guarantee you I'm right!

I just looked up the 2001 ES fully loaded (sans auto tranny) on NADA's website and was given $13,350 as average retail and $11,325 as avg. trade-in.
