i have a 2003 protege dx...is that a 3rd gen? i just bought it about 3 days ago. help me out guys..o and could someone recomend some performance upgrades to start with. such as cold air or ram air intake ect.

Yep ... any protege 99-03 is 3rd generation. You have a 2.0L right? If so, there's a number of intakes available but they're quite expensive. . . read this post and that should answer most of your questions as far as what options are available for intakes.

Also, check out the FAQ , it has a lot of info you'll find useful down the road.

Yes, Thunder headers/exhausts are going to be your best bet. Just like in the case of intakes, these products are quite a bit less money than others out in the market but still high quality stuff.
