Which Protege is mine???

I have a Japanese imported 1999 Mazda Familia SP20 2.0L with tiptronic tx.
I am from New Zealand and want to know which American Protege is the same as mine.
Cheers

Sounds like you have a Protege5. Is it AWD?
Post a pic! :)

macdaddyslomo September-19th-2006 11:47 AM

there isn't really one "like yours" in the states...closest would be P5

dudeondacouch September-19th-2006 12:59 PM

yeah, we didn't get hatches until the freshening in 02.

Mine is RWD but there are a couple of AWD models around but quite rear to find though. Not sure how to post a pic in a thread but will put one on my profile. Cheers again

Whoa?!? A RWD Protege? That's insane. You can post a pic by inserting an attachment to your post. Click on reply, then go towards the bottom and click on manage attachments. Browse for the file on your PC and upload it. Then click close window and Submit your reply. I wanna see this!

I know exactly how you feel!
Here are some pics of my last ride... 2003 Holden Maloo Ute.
Was lowered on 19" with 300kw under the hood with 6 speed transmission. Never raced it but if you breathed on the accelerator too hard you're spinning rubber!!
Petrol price down here has become ridiculous lately @ $1.60 NZD per litre. Not sure what the conversion for the US is but thats exspensive!

Now i'm loving this cool little Mazda that still has some "Zoom zoom" but doesn't cost me $4 to turn the key!

My friend you have what they call the mazda sport20 familia!
I love those cars!
I know for sure it's FWD but are you sure it not a 4WD? I know some of them came with the 4WD setup.

I myself have a 99 mazda familia. Not the sport20 version, but it has the 4WD setup. I love it!
Handles really well!

Most likely, this is the engine you have under your hood:
