Hey, all

The recent, blistering cold spell in Montreal just has me wondering if you guys have had any problems with your Protégés in winter, such as engine starting or window fogging, defroster performance, etc.

no, it's fine for that kinda stuff.

get snow tires though. especially if you're getting an ES or a P5.

 

just takes too long to warm up as opposed to other cars i used to own.... and lots of squeaks... i have to get my belts checked out.

 

No problems in two winters and several -30C days. Just to echo alcoholiday, get snow tires! There is a Protege5 down the street from me, stock SP5000's, cracked up front end. The SP's are useless in the winter.

 

This is the second winter for my P5. No problems in the cold, although -20 is about as cold as it gets around here. -17 this morning and I had heat after 3-4 km of easy driving. The stock tires are fine for light winter duty (I don't have winter tires and have no regrets) but if you live somewhere where winter is a serious proposition (like Montreal) I'd agree that winter tires are a must.

 

The first big cold snap in Georgia made my CEL come on Saturday morning. I had just installed an intake the week before and thought this might have something to do with it. Reset the computer again (unhooked battery, pumped brakes, waited 10 minutes) .... no problems, and no more CEL.

I had already reset it before when I installed the intake. But maybe taking in the first huge gulp of cold air must have ticked it off.....

 

Mine's been great in those respects. 2 winters, this one particularly harsh. No problems.

We get tons of snow for months on end here, so I run 15" steelies with Arctic Alpins all winter. Great tire... great car.

 

My P5 does quite well here in Vancouver. The stock tires aren't too bad in the rain and when I was living in Calgary, the rest of the guys/girls will to you: If you live anywhere where you might get a few inches a snow, go snowies. Thankfully, I didn't stay in Calgary long enough to have this snow season to start. Hey guys, remember the snow in 97/98? Damn, there was a lot.

 

It is hard to turn over, But its below ) out so it takes a bite to turn over.

 

I just bought my ES in December and I haven't even drove it on dry roads yet... I can't wait!

I just had a look over at the "Brrrr Cold" thread and they don't seem to agree that the Pro is a good winter car. Oh well, I'll take my chances. I always do my best to winterize a car, anyway.

 

my pro is fine in the winter, just make sure you have winter tires.

 

Had my Pro5 since October 2002. We had some snow all over side roads here in KY last week. It did pretty good on some hills covered with ice and snow with stock tires. I did notice lots of pops and cracks coming out of the dash area when temps were in single digits though. Supposed to get below zero this weekend with more snow. I have a '77 Chevy full size Blazer for really bad weather, but at 10mpg it has to get pretty bad to fire it up.

 

i have a 99 lx, and my windows fog up like a biachhhh

 

Have you tried turning on the A/C button with fresh air on and the temp dial set to hot? That clears my windows most of the time.
