Another 1.6er!! Welcome to the forum. I also have a 1.6 liter, but its the 00 model year Pro. As far as performance mods go, it all depends on what you wanna do and how much you have to spend. You can start off with header, CAI and exhaust system. Then if you like, you can go with Computer upgrade by Jet chip and then gettin engine work done.

Basically, where do you wanna start?

Starting Point

Well this weekend I'll be upgrading the exhaust system to 3" pipe from the manifild to the exhaust barrel. I'm also instsalling a K&N filter and intake system.

That's about it for the immediate. Any advice for me.

Terry.

DO NOT USE 3" for your exhaust or intake, unless you are turbo...it is too big....you'll lose lots of low end torque and gain very little up high...and sorry steve, jet chip is a BAD idea....when you go into closed loop(full throttle) the ECU will override any piggy back...so Jet Chip is a big waste....my recommendation would be intake and 2.25 catback exhaust....or for a bigger increase go with a Wagner motorsports turbo kit....any other questions feel free to ask....

Yep 3 inch is way too big for exhaust if youre not going FI. You may want to w/ 2inch or 2 1/4 at the most for piping. I am not familiar w/ the 1.6 from Protege but in my 92 Miata w/ Greddy catback, shaved head, Randall type CAI, RB headers, 12btdc timing and RX7 amf is putting out 112rwhp and good for high 15s in 1/4.

But its not like Im going to be at full throttle all the time. I hardly ever floor my gas pedal as it is now. So I think for me personally, its going to be a big help.

Thanks guys,

I'm from the Caribbean and I need a dealer location in Miami to source the turbo kit. I Trinidad these items cost an arm and leg so it's cheaper to import it.

Any suggestions, I also need some research info so that I can make a decision.
