Paint chip on rear doors... grrr

Hi all,

Been a while since I've been on here (too busy enjoying the car, LOL... and with work, not-LOL).

I've recently done some cleaning inside the car, removing calcium stains from the carpet, vaccuum the inside, etc. At some point, one of the rear doors impacted against the wall of my garage... rrrrgh. It's not enough that it happened on one side, I repeated the same thing on the other side!!

What I noticed is that the cut of the rear doors, to allow for the wheel well, does not permit the door moulding to act as a protection against this. This wasn't a problem on the front doors, because the moulding runs the whole length of the door. So now I've got a very small chip on both rear doors. I put some Mazda touch-up paint on them; the color match isn't that perfect, but it's better than leaving it the way it was.

I was wondering if anyone bought aftermarket door strips like you can get at Scrappy Tire for a few bucks? Are they worth installing? Do they make the car look ugly? Do they trap water and crap like that?

Thanks in advance

I'll be the first.

Be more careful when opening doors.

I'd say that would be the best way.

Two possibilities:

I don't think the guard stuff you mentioned is too bad. I'm assuming you mean the stuff that is like a channel and slips over the edge of the door correct? Like...ummm...the people who buy it in chrome and put it freaking EVERYWHERE - every panel seam, hood, etc. That stuff?

Good product, and I think they sell it in CLEAR, which would be optimum, IMHO. Chrome or black just look too obvious and ugly. It's a good product and serves it's purpose well.

Another thing is to find the areas in your garage where your doors might hit when opened. Get a couple of scrap pieces of carpet, 1 ft squares, 2 ft squares - whatever you can find - and staple, nail, or glue them to the wall in those areas. Never get a door chip again.

Ok, guys, I think I've figured out the "be more careful" part. I've actually become kind of paranoid about it, now, seeing how fragile the paint on this car is!

Yeah, hihoslva, that's the stuff I was talking about. My Oldsmobile had that crap everywhere... but I was thankful that it had it on the doors. That car had truck-sized doors, LOL.

Okay, thanks, I haven't thought about the clear ones. Cool, they don't deface the car too much. I will check out what's available.
