P5 Shifter Sucks?

Well, I have my P5 for about a week now and I still love it however I think the Shifter sucks. Is it me or does the shifter feel weak? When I shift I can feel the stick move a little as i am applying the gas. Is this normal or does my clutch need adjustment? Because this happens it make me feel that the clutch is really not that sturdy. Anyone else have this problem? When I got my car the dealer said this is normal.

Thanks theman

Thanks for the input. I guess I was a little worried cause of the shifter moving a little by itself. I have driven sticks in the past and they sound like the cable ones as you mentioned. The shifter does have that vibrating/humming feeling so it obviously is the feedback that you are mentioning. How difficult is it to change the tranny fluid? Does this require any bleeding of the tranny?

Thrue that our shifter is quality but man what the hell. The throw is simply ridicoulous. Way to big. I need a short shifter soon. I drove my friend new RSX-S and let me tell ya the shifter is awsome, i want mine short too.

TriPoint make a short shifter for our car !! I just need to know the $$$ it cost and it will be comming home for sure !

A cheap and easy way to fix your shifter is to remove the extension piece they put on the five. Then you have the same shifter as a miata or MP3. It makes a big difference. DO NOT CUT IT. You must heat it and remove the extension. It requires you to use an aftermarket shift **** the allen key type it works and it is inexpensive. I read about it on another forum. I will send link if you wish....

Peace out

It took me a bit to get used to the feedback that comes through the shifter. But now that its broke in I think its one of the slickest shifting transmissions I have ever used. Especially considering that its an 'economy' type car. But I agree that the throw could be a little shorter.

Can you send that link??

Be warned

The mention above of removing the extension is just that, making the stick shift shorter, NOT THE DISTANCE YOU HAVE TO MOVE TO SHIFT. This method is not a true short shifter. From what I have heard, B&M makes a short shifter for our car but I have not inquired yet.

I'll wait for an actual short throw conversion. Removing the extension seems kind of jankey.

DIN Install

Tomac. That is one of the cleanest deck installs I have seen what kit did you use ?? It is flush. Did the rear of the dash get on the way ??.

Thanks

I dropped off my car and that deck to Audiowerks in Bend Oregon and said "Here you go guys, make it pretty." I didn't want to go through the hastle like I did with my old car. The complete install of the deck only was $40 so I think it was a fair deal since they included that DIN pocket / bracket / harness / whatever else was needed. Havent had a look at the back and dont plan on it until something breaks Sorry I'm not more help.
