NightCrawler, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

oh btw....just in case you didn't know.....typing in all CAPS is the equivilent of YELLING at us.....I KNOW that wasn't you intent....so how about it....hit that key one more time and take the capslock off.....besides....it also makes it harder to read.

You did not get 0-60 in 8.2 seconds, not unless you have Nitrous or a turbo.

umm.. well... motor trend did 8.5 on a stock p5, if you have a CAI you should be able to get 8.7 since you are most likely not a professional driver. but if you are i stand corrected.

Motor Trend does not even get the times they advertise. They calculate for factors then give you the times. The protege 5 which I have is not capable of those times. That would equal to around mid 16's in the quarter mile, which at 2700lbs, almost 2800 lbs and under 100 hp at the wheels it just can not achieve. If you show me a video clip of the protege even doing 0-60 under 9 seconds I would literally **** my pants. I've tried and tried its just not that fast.

If you show me proof I stand corrected. But most people would agree with me that 8 1/2 seconds to 60 it can not do.

0-60 TIMEZ

Hi, This is my first post since I just registered and I just wanted to say my side of the story. I drive 2002 Protege sedan and had never had anybody time me 100% accurate but my Gtech pro says that my time is 9.3 runing 87 octane and shifting at 5.5K RPM.

I would have to say that you most likely can go 0-60 in less than 9 seconds. It wold take a LOT of pratice in the shifting though, but i is possible, and there are mostlikely people on this board that have drove their cars long enought that they should be able to do clutchless upshifts. FOr the AT, well that is a different story. But for 5 speed, i believe it is below 9, expescially if you have a few mods. (air, exhaust, tires.....etc.)

It would be dam hard. Clutchless upshifts might do it, but bye bye clutch.

I think it's possible....add little of tail wind, nice weather and some luck.
Clutchless shifts will not harm clutch("clutchless"-clutch is not used!) but will be hard on transmission. Getting 8.2 seconds with nitrous or turbo-you gotta be shifting at 3000 rpm to get such lousy time.
Timed with stop watch? Add 0.5 sec for reaction/error and you'll be at C&D times.

Not possible in an auto then. Got to be really good to get a good launch.

Unless you've got the new Gtech Pro Competition, your 9.3 second time means nothing. The original Gtech Pro was so wildly inaccurate that some of my racer friends took to calling it the GhettoTech Pro. A car that can run a 1/4 mile time at an NHRA-certified strip that is within 1 second of its Gtech Pro time is the exception, not the rule.

IMHO this whole discussion is kind of silly because it's almost impossible to get an accurate 0-60 time from within the car unless you own a high-precision accelerometer (the Gtech Competition is actually supposed to work pretty well FWIW). Trusting the car's speedometer and a stopwatch is a surefire way to get bogus times. The best way to get an ACCURATE, REPEATABLE measure of your car's acceleration is a 1/4 mile time from an NHRA-certified dragstrip. The 1/4 mile tells you a lot more about a car's real-world performance anyways.

True that. I went down to the strip and the results speak for themselves. Protege is just not a drag racing powerhouse, so don't expect the 0-60 to be great. It's simple, 95 hp at the wheels and a heavy curb weight means lousy acceleration. End of story.
