Car and Driver is the only test I have seen where the MSP didn't score higher than the SVT Focus from what I can remember. Motor Trend rated the MSP higher I think...but Car and Driver did clearly state that the MSP is the clear hands down handling mad-man that would destroy any of those cars in the turns without flexing...
The biggest kick in the face to me was when SCC (or it's readers for that matter) gave the SRT-4 car of the year. The MSP was the first production FWD ever to offer better all around performance than a Type-R...I will leave it at that...

Personally I feel the MSP should of been first not the SRT-4. Have any of you sat in one. What a poorly and cheaply built car. I feel the same way about the SVT too. I have a 03 SE-R and I think my P5's interior is so much nicer then the SE-Rs.
To come right down to it. Its up to the buyer what he likes and wants. Out of the 4 cars in this comparo the SRT-4 has the best factory support then the other 3. My friend was looking at the SRT-4 before he bought his Cooper S and the parts depart at the Dodge dealer what seemed to be an endless list of performance parts for the SRT-4.
When the Sentra SE-R SpecV first was out in 02 it was the car to beat now its on the bottom of the list. All the mags but this car down. Also its always last in the comparos.

What I don't get is how they rate these cars when at the time of the article, the SRT-4 wasn't even out for public yet and the same with the MSP I believe. Come on, the people that drive these cars are you and I not the editors. We should be the ones voting.
maybe you should apply for an editorial job at a magazine then? otherwise it's like complaining about the gov't...if you don't have the ***** to change it yourself you shouldn't complain.
btw i'm not yellin at you i feel the same way. Unfortunately we are screwed unles we want to go to "user review" sites which even i don't ever take seriously

From what I remember, SCC's car of the year is based on reader input...And I didn't vote, but I was under the assumption that "most" of SCC's readers understood why a Type R has been king for years...And the fact that in SCC's review of the MSP they noted that it is now the FWD benchmark, and that the SRT-4 is simply a cheap economy car with a powerful engine...I figured the SRT-4 would get car of the year, but like you said Farsyde, not voting on it in the first place is like bitching about Presidential decisions without having any part in deciding who is the President in the first place...

From what I believe the SRT-4 was out. Well at least a guy down the street from me here in FL had one and I raced him and got my *** handed to me as well as in the turns. I had my 03 turbo at that time. Its one helluva automobile and I would have bought one before the Proteges any day.
