my exhaust situation
my exhaust situation
there is a performance car shop across the street from my work, me and the owner became "friends" and he said he would get me a skunk2 exhaust for my protege5 so he charged me 326 for the cat-back system. i thought it was a super deal. well i paid him and waited and waited. 10 days later. this past saturday he says bring my car in early a.m. so i bring it and drop it off and show back up around noon. nothing is done to my car. he then tells me he has the mazda speed protege exhaust and not the p5. i didn't think that would matter but he says it does. he said it would be another week because the p5 one is backordered. i told him i want my cash back. now i can't get ahold of him. just went to his shop and hes not there. i want to go ahead and order the megan racing exhaust now, but can't until he pays me back. this has just been so frustrating. this guy keeps telling me he wants to hook me up and get me deals at his cost...that sounds great in theory but i think i'd rather just pay the lil extra and get the right part and actually get the part.
sorry for the rant.
sorry for the rant.
If you mean, the exhaust that arrived was for a sedan, it does matter. the final pipe from the muffler to the bumper is much shorter for the P5.
If you mean he got in an actual Mazdaspeed exhaust, that's only an axle-back and a lot less than 326 bucks.
Not sure what you meant.
Anyway, 326 bucks for a cat-back sounds like a decent price, (although I'm not familiar with Skunk 2 pricing)--I'd just wait another week. So he got the wrong part in, that doesn't mean he ordered the wrong one...
But hey, it's your money, right, so if you want it back, he should give it back.

i just felt he was getting kinda shady with me. so i figured it would be best to pull out of this situation and get my money back

Sounds like the guy made an honest mistake to me. He probably didn't remember that the lengths were different until your car was on the hoist.
Ten days isn't a lot of time to wait for a part to come in. Backorders are common in the aftermarket. I remember ordering a CAI for my 2001 Neon. It was an Iceman. Anyhow, it was backordered for several months because they (Iceman) had a small fire in their plant, and their inventory was ruined. I was able to get my order changed to an AEM without additional expense. I remember another time, waiting for several months for tinted lights to come in for my Ranger. These aftermarket companies are little companies of lot of time, and there usually isn't a ton of inventory waiting in a warehouse somewhere. I just don't think this guy was trying to screw you. You should cut him a little slack; he might be willing to work with you a bit more than you realize. But you might as well get used to waiting for stuff. It's part of the biz, unless you buy all your stuff from Pep Boys.

thanks guys didn't know that about the biz. this is my first stab at mods for my car. i'm starting with the exhaust. he seemed like a very upfront guy. well i finally got ahold of him yesterday and he is getting me my money back no problem. i think i'll order an intake through him since he says he'll get stuff at his cost, it shouldn't be to difficult to order an aem intake. i've already ordered the megan racing exhaust. so i'm guessing that might take just as long to come in?
well i've gotten $200 of the $326 that the guy owes me. I had already ordered another exhaust the megan racing cat-back and it just came in today. i'm gonna go get it installed after work. now just have to get the rest of my money from that guy! .... hope its not gonna be like pulling teeth (the first 200 was)
i'll let you guys know how the exhaust is when it gets done!
