welcome to the family scotty and becoming a proud owner of an MP3 i was that way too but mine was a birthday/christmas/i wrecked my old protege present type thing. I don't know if they have it but if you look under my name you should see a thread w/pics of my old protege and MP3. god i love that car. so far i only have a borla cat-back on but i am debating on going FI or NA so far the wallet is telling me NA. but regaurdless of what i do i gaurantee i will be spending the $$. port & polish, cams, pullies, header, intake manifold, etc... but definatly keep us posted on what you do or any questions you have. Everyone hear is very helpful.

Thanks, so far everyone seems really nice. Sucks to hear about your accident. I'll be sure to keep you updated on what I do to it in the future, and eventually get some pics up. And i agree with you, no matter what I do, alot of money will wind up in this car!

well in my continued search to get an idea of what parts I plan to get in the hopefuly near future, on corksports.com, I came across "AUTO exe header" , I dont plan to get them for a couple reasons, one being I plan to get mattys supercharger which is built around the OBX ones, and the fact that they are $940!!! anybody know if theyre good and worht that much? just wondering!

Also, does anybody know how the Skunk2 exhaust works on the proteges? I know it works pretty well on other imports like civics and sutff, so I was wondering how it would do on the MP3.

Finally, I asked this in the beginning of this thread, but nobody really commented or theyre just might not be any, but are there anything like cams or pulleys, or somethign else like that, that would be worth putting into the car.

Thanks again.
Later.

I don't think you'll find anyone (other than Topher) who would say that any header is really going to show a difference in power that would justify the price increase over an OBX header.

I think for the supercharger kit the OBX will be the header of choice or a Wagner shorty header with catless DP. I REALLY want to stress how important it is to be able to all of that air out of the head. If you don't you'll be blowing head gaskets left and right. I have the OBX so naturally I designed around it. Wagners header is awesome if you need to remain emissions friendly but I don't see that happening with anyone who installs a supercharger with stand alone fuel management....kinda defeats the purpose.

Skunk2 exhausts I'm sure are like any other.....no real difference in performance, only sound. I suggest finding an exhaust 2.25" or 2.5" with mandrel bends, polished stainless steel and a nice muffler with a tip under 4" in size....anything larger will touch the bumper.

As for cams and pulleys....Wagnermotorsports.net is developing some custom cams for the fs-de but I wouldn't get anything too radical if you plan on adding the supercharger in a few months. I'm going to buy the j-spec mazda intake cam which should produce about 8hp on a stock motor and probably upwards of double that with the supercharger thanks to it's higher lift and longer duration. If you hear someone mention "mazdaspeed cams" they are refering to the J-spec cams....the MSProtege has the same cams as every other 2.0L US-spec motor.

Do NOT buy UDP's especially if you plan on buying the supercharger. I'm designing all of the pulley configurations/sizes off the stock set-up. Smaller crank pulley will cause you to over boost and possibly cause damage. Besides I doubt you'd get anything more than about 5whp. Stick with the J-spec intake cam, obx header and a nice catback...you'll need these mods anyway down the road and they are cheap, readily available and proven.

Hey, with the answers you guys provided me I've looked around all this weekend and narrowed it down to these parts, I know I'm dreaming, but dreams can come true! So now its just about saving money.... a lot of money.....

CAI - probably an eBay one for money
Headers - OBX
Exhaust - skunk2
SC - matty's WOMP one eventually!

thats about it performance-wise, probably a short-shifter and other things like that , but if you guys think something else would be good like clutch or anything, just suggest them...

Eventually I'd probably want to do some body work.

I like THIS HOOD . (Better Pic)

Also this BODY KIT.

So thats what I've got for now, gotta get working for some money. Tell me what you guys think about the set-up and body and everything.

Thanks

"How fast it goes and how good it looks depends on the size of your pocket books."

It's the modders motto.

I would hold off on the intake (if you're serious about buying the supercharger because it will be worthless (almost)

I would personally recommend the MSP short shifter....at any given time you can pick one up in the $40-50 range and it's a GREAT piece. I have no clue why MSP owners sell them....I buy them up whenever I get the chance.

a typical clutch is going to run you $300+ and you'll want one with the supercharger....not sure how long a stock clutch will hold.

Haha no matty, dont worry about that. I promise I'm leaning WAY MORE towards your SC then anything else, I just said that because I'm new to the whole community, and I've read your post on the SC and some people seem really skeptical about it and I didnt know what anybody on that forum knew about it, so I didnt want them to be like "oh, thats never going to happen" and stuff like that, you know? But like I said, I'm definatly way more interested in the SC then a turbo, too much goes into a turbo, and they get too hot and all that other stuff so dont worry lol.

Stueck - thats exactly what I thought and its why I like it, its a really nice kit while not being too over done or rediculous.

Dudeondacouch - thanks, I'll probably PM him later and check it out.

Thanks again everyone.

they hate on the supercharger because they dont like me....I'm used to it but it misleads newbies from time to time!

I love turbo's...honestly. I have several myself. My daily driven street cars are all supercharged and my race cars are all turbocharged....tht should tell you something!

So you saying Sc's more efficient and turbos better for sheer power, or what are you trying to say? lol

super's make better daily drivers and turbo's make better racers.

Is that why you were so set on building the SC, for more of an everyday use with some extra power? But would you say turbos are too much maintenance...? or why wouldnt you like them so much in an everyday car?
