MP3 owners: Did Mazda charged you higher than MSRP?

We all know that the MP3 is a limited edition car. I am wondering if any of you guys were charged over the MSRP for your MP3. I am wondering because I want to do more reserach before actually go to the dealer.

What is the best strategy to keep Mazda not to charge me higher than MSRP or perhaps, sell to me for below MSRP!

Thanks!

I don't have a MP3, but last weekend I was in San Antonio Texas and at a Mazda dealership they had two MP3s, a yellow and a blue. They have both $5,000 over MSRP. They also have a good selection of Pro5s. The only ones with markup are the yellows, at $2,000 over MSRP. I think it is hwy robbery the 5K mark up. I undersdtand they are Limited editions but for the performance I rather buy a WRX with that kind of money.

A dealer here has them marked up about $1500. THey have the little dealer add on sticker in the window and it says MP# package $1500. Eventhought the damn sticker from the factory says MP3 on it 5 or 6 different times. anyone who pays more then sticker is pretty much a moron. the car depreciates as soon as it leaves the lot so even if you paid that $1500 they want you are screwed for a good $3000 as soon as you leave.

The dealer's in my town wanted $4000 over MSRP! I laughed at them. I agree with Old Guy, that markup puts the MP3 in an unfavorable catagory compared with other imports. The problem is that no one really knew much about these cars until it was too late and most of them were gone, the dealer knows this and marks them up

My dealer wanted $1000 over sticker, but after about 3 days of argueing, I got him down to about $200 below MSRP. Mine has everything so it retails for $18550, I got it for $18380. But after taxes is a whole different story, that's where they take it to you.

Here in Canada they can not charge over MSRP, like 90&00 Protege mentioned. What they are mostly doing now instead is adding on expensive dealer installed options to drive the price of the car up. For example North Hill Mazda (where I bought my car) recently got in two MP3's. They added a leather interior, and cheesy window tint and priced them at 28K.

They do it here anyways. Dealer got away with it by driving it for 3K, then saying it was a buyback. They then charged 3K over the new price.

Northill Mazda presold both MP3's, but one dude (who wanted the leather and the window tint) backed out. This is according to Ken who sold me my P5 for less than MSRP. That MP3 is still available at Northill, tell them Dale sent you!!!

f you want a 'deal' on an MP3, probably the best bet is to see if you can get some accessories you like thrown in, or some oil changes or something.

BTW, the leather they put on that MP3 is nicer than the silver cloth, in my opinion. I have leather on my P5 and it is awesome. Worth the extra cost.

Dale.

I think the blue/black leather on that MP3 looks great. However, I find the seats lack lateral support even with cloth. Leather + awsome MP3 suspension = me sliding all over the damn place! My MR2 has large bolsters that keep me in place even with leather seats.

tester - that is a supreme rip off! The guy who bought that car got taken to the cleaners! 29K for a car with 3000 kms on it, ouch!

In other MP3 rip off news... at Regina Mazda the one MP3 they had was for lease only. Payments were $500 a month for 48 months plus about 2K down. Do the math... 26K! You get to buy the whole car then give it back in 4 years.

I'd trade my ES in on an 2002 MP(S) if it has 170+ hp, but from the sounds of the dealer practices I don't think I would want to.

What did the leather cost? Who did the installation?

If it wasn't HUGE money I might think about this.

Anyone from Alberta have an idea on what it will cost to tint all the windows in the P5?

Thanks.

There is an MP3 at Sundance Mazda (West Edmonton) going for about 26K. Atleast it was still there a couple of weeks ago when I was shopping for my P5.

Neuromancer, the leather in my P5 was $2000 extra, I imagine it's the same for the MP3, even with the 2 color thing going on. Most factory leather is about $1500 from my shopping. I think the extra cost was worth it for the quality of the hides they used. $2000 is a lot, but if you want leather, I think it's a fair price for what you get.

Ouch That is a little beyond what I want to sink into this car, although it sure is tempting (I <3 Leather).

Did you get to keep the original seat covers? Was that for all seating surfaces?

Thanks!

I asked if I could keep the original covers, and was told that they had to make enough cuts to get them off that it was at best impractical to keep the original covers. That was a bit disappointing, because that would be a neat way to have a really nice interior later in the car's life and you wanted to sell it.

The leather is on all seating surfaces, and the seat sides and backs, and the door panels are vinyl, kind of like most factory leather setups. They did a nice medium blue insert in this MP3, as mentioned earlier. It looks sharp.
