Chances? Really good still. They're reflectors, so good look.

If you want HIDs and don't want glare then you HAVE to retrofit some Hella 90 HID projectors or Bi-xenon projectors.

Unless you got a BMW (and even then you aren't going to be 100%) reflector housing from the late 90s, or a unit made SPECIFICALLY for HIDs you're SOL.

Sure you could put them in, notice an increase of light, glare, unfocussed light pattern, and street signs glarring at you like lights because of the wrong colour, but it's not worth it.

I meant the E-code lamps, not any HID kit or lookalike or whatever.

Why do people always think HID's always have to work with projectors?

HIDs on cars with a reflector headlight system are as good if not better than projectors.

For one the glare for the oncoming driver is not as bad, since the light has a greater area to diffuse in the headlight and the opening is also larger. Look at the BMW 3 series, the opening of the projector lense is small compared to the big reflector in the pre 2003 Mercedes S class, and hence glare is much worse.

Second, although projectors in some cases throw light out farther, reflectors light up the edge of the road better, and throw light just as far out.

Many cars with HIDs have reflector light housings. The Lexus IS300, ES300, LS430, Nissan Maxima and the JDM Familia Sport20 all have reflector housings with HID. Not to mention they don't have so much glare as projector units.

Don't post BS about **** you know nothing about.

Those cars you listed with a reflector housing, they housing is MEANT for HID, and NOT HALOGEN. There is a HUUUUGE difference in how they are designed compared to say a P5 headlight.

And, projectors will ALWAYS beat out a reflector with HIDs.

If you want to learn more about healight design and systems, go to this site. Then you wont be posting such BULLSHIT on here anymore.

you said this, didn't you? so does that mean hid only work with projectors?

where did i mention the p5 headlight in my post? if you don't find anything please stfu about me saying what i did not say

yah, and so what? to the driver it beats out but it blinds oncoming traffic more so than reflectors.

yah whatever call me bs or whatever, i have no time for you ...back to my finance assignment.

Ya well, I didn't mean to be so rude to you, so I am sorry, I was just in a bad mood.

Back to the topic though.

A projector will NEVER blind on-coming traffic because they are designed speficially for that reason. Unless you put an HID kit on a halogen projector that is.

It's not just the shield that gives the cutoff, it's the design of the internals of the reflector (wow, was that ever bad english!).

Specific projectors are made for HIDs. It has to do with their overall length, diametre, and depth.

I will be retro-fitting Bi-Xenon projectors into my headlights, along with a separate "flash-to-pass" high beam light tucked in the corner. It wont glare other drivers, and it wont be aimed wrong either.

P5 headlights should never have HIDs in them. Unless you put proper reflectors in there, you would have horrible results.

Even those fancy reflector lights with HIDs in them from the factory are horrible.

I dunno, it's hard to explain by typing it all out and it takes a while, but if you go to that site I gave you those people there are the best people for healights around.

hids..

ok so i installed the hids .. and i was proven wrong.. i told u if i was wrong i would come back and let u know.. they are bright and they do give off a slight glare.. but to state that i would blind oncoming drivers and cause accidents i believe that was just a tad far fetched.
so i was wrong.. i didnt know what i was talkin about.. but i tried it an came back and let u kno.. i like my hids and i actually had a cop ask me if they were factory.. i told him yet and he said they looked good.. go figure.. im happy.. im not causin accidents. but i was wrong.. there is a slight glare.

What colour did you end up getting?

And what do you mean by a "slight" glare? I just saw a P5 tonight with an aftermarket HID kit in it, probably around 6500K, and it had REEEEEEALLY bad glare. It was almost as bad as an SUV.

I hope you're not using the HIDs as a high beam replacement.

Pics would be nice, but it will be almost impossible to get a pic of the HIDs without the photo getting saturated or whatever it's called.
