Ignition prob??? Please help!

Hello all! My girlfriend owns a 99 1.6l (approx. 25,000 miles) and is having some type of ignition or fuel related problem. It usually occurs under load and while accelerating. The car seems to be ok in the upper rpm's but very slow to start off initially. I can be accelerating fine then shift to second and the car will barely go, then after a little while it will pick up and act normal.
I feel as though it may not be running on all 4 cyl. when this happens. I have checked the plugs and they are fine. I think I will try to replace the wires. Are there any aftermarket versions since Mazda wants to rape you for them?
Any ideas and helpful info are greatly appreciated!

Many thanks!

I appreciate the response, however I don't think that's the problem. The plugs and wires are dry and it is distributorless. It has been doing this for a long time now. I am just going to replace the wires and hope that cures it. I can't believe wires are so expensive for this car. I can buy high performance wires for my RX-7 for much less

Thanks for your help!

Anyone else have an idea?

Warranty gone?

Mazda has a standard 3 year 50,000 mile warranty. You mentioned that the Mazda you have is a 99 and only has 25,000 miles or so. Are you positive it's run out?
Before going to the dealer try some simple fixes. I know that dirty/clogged injectors can sometimes cause the sort of hesitation you described. Maybe some fuel injection cleaner may help. Bad wires are probably another good source to check, but it sounds like you have that much covered. Good Luck! Hope it's an easy fix for you.

I'm having the same problem with my Pro LX 16.L...
It starts real sluggish then at 3k RPM starts going un real quick 'til 6k. Plugs are brand new Bosch Platinium +4 haven't checked the mass Airflow yet, but since it got a warranty extensions for this part i'll check it out if i were you mine was acting weird some time ago. All the other options are good points to check. I think i'll do some checking this weekend in the distribution system.

Thanks for the hints and i hope you get your prob fixed cuz having myself that kind of problem is really annoying.
