Idle

You know funny you mention it, I started to notice the same problem with mine about a month ago. Sometimes I think the damn thing is gonna stall, so I turn everything off, radio, AC...and it seems to get better, but who wants to drive around with no radio or air?

I've had the same problem for the past month. When it happens I just rev my engine to about 3k and it goes away. But I have another problem say my car is off and I turn it on and I try to accelerate and the car wont do anything but there is a funny noice in the engine and after about 5 seconds this pop occurs and the car is back to normal.

As a matter of fact yeah I do have it on. Just because I live in FL and the humidity is really bad over here. Otherwise i wouldn't give a ****. But i'm going to try to have it off most of the time.

bad fuel

i had this happen once about a month ago for a whole week

have you thought it might just be bad fuel?

here in australia our premium fuel is 98 octane so its nice on the engines but as soon as i went to a local to fill up the next week was hell, nearly stalled ten times in like 5 mins... just needed to refill the tank at the end of the week with new fuel.... ahhh much better

never stoppped using premium since then

DAMN 98 Octane!!!!!

Best I can find in NJ in most areas is 94(~$1.50). I do know of one Gas Station that carries 105, but it is over $4 a gallon

Used to Fill my Camaro with the 105, of course that was 5 years ago when I lived at home and didn't have any bills.

Yeah, I miss having money and no bills.

prices

well here it is about 95c a litre for 98 octane

so its alot cheaper over there... like a quarter of the price...

regular unleaded is about 87c a litre

so dont complin about bills my friend.... lol you people in the US get petrol really cheap.... lol

enjoy it while you can.... =p and remember only move to australia for high octane not for prices.... =p

Sometime for like a nano second I feel something strange. When it occur I dont have the time to watch the rpm. It happen like 2-3 time a month when i am at a red light on idle I feel the idle fall like if the car was chocking. It doens't last but still its strange. I dont have AC by the way. My car is also not really fuel efficient. I cant do more than 350-400 Km with a full tank.

i have tried everything and can't figure it out, got the defroster off the ac off. Everytime i pull up to a drive thru and go to roll down my window the damn car is shuttering, windshield wipers on car shutters, at lights, am thinking about just adjusting the idle myself..but the last car i did that on i always felt like it was idling too high..any suggestions people?? Maybe I just need a tune up but I just got the car 6 months ago, don't you think the mazda dealer would have done that? Probably not.

I no longer have my 99 Protege, but I read this and I thought I would tell you what my problem was....I was having the idle drop and the car would act like it was going to die, then something under the hood would pop and the idle would pick up and was normal. I took it to the dealership and they said it was the idle control valve and would be almost $500 for that one repair. I also had a oil leak, a Map sensor problem and it needed Struts...the car had over 80k on it so I thought it was time to trade it in...I feel sorry for the poor soul who got it... Anyway. I hope this helps maybe you can replace your idle control valve and that will solve your problems.

hey guy from sydney use 87 octane or your lowest one... there has already been a big discussion and higher octane is not gonna help your engine.... becuase we aren't driving V6 or turbos

the idle drop only seems to happen in hot temps or after you push the car very hard for a long time.... this happened like a year ago.... nothing wrong with the car has happenend after that.... so I don't think it is a big problem
