How much did you pay for a P5?

I will be trading in my '00 Protege SE for a P5 sometime in may. I'll be getting the base model (ie no SUNROOF, no LEATHER etc), plus a factory kill switch. I want to get an idea of how low can i push the dealer.

Thanks guys

My sticker says the base model is $16,335. You'd have to see what the actual dealer price is & battle from there!

Thanks Brubeck, i did look already though.
What i forgot to mention is does anyone from within CANADA have the price they paid for their P5.

I'm not sure, but i think Japanese cars have higher import fees in the US than they do in Canada, so the US price is not direct comparison for my case.

Thanks again,

I'm pretty sure I saw 19,895 for the base model.. which means no moonroof and AC.

Mine was $22,800 fully equipped. But you can always bargain. I got screwed from my last lease. I was 42,000kms over my limit; I went to a different dealership (Hawkesbury, ON) they were nice and took $1000 off and bought the car. I bought my p5 this time, so that way I can drive all I want!!! WEE!!!!

Which colour are you looking at buying?

Canadian dealer cost on a base P5 is $18,477 (MSRP $19,895). This comes from carcostcanada, the service I used to get dealer costs in February for my P5. Add $85 (MSRP $105) for yellow, blue, silver or black paint and $929 (MSRP $1000) for A/C.

Silver is awesome!!!

I also like the white one, but had white on my last Protege.

I didn't want the moonroof at first, but my dad told me to go for it.. so I got it and I liked it ever since! Plus, I feel like I'm getting a tan too

Lightbulb I used autobytel.ca and got a great price on my 2002 protege es

You should give Autobytel.ca a try (http://www.autobytel.ca). The lowest on the road price I could get for my 2002 Protege ES was $25,300. I used autobytel and received a quote from the accredited dealer for $24,200 all taxes included. You're under no obligation to buy from the dealer, but you should give it a try after you've shopped around a bit if you can't get the price you want elsewhere.

OK, back to Canadian prices... got my wife's red P5 2 weeks ago for effectively $1000 off list (List is $21,895 with Air and Auto). There are lots of cars on the lot now so some firm negotiation pays off in the bottom line. Of course we did have to pay the $895 Freight, $100 Air Tax, $75 Fuel Tax, around $100 Admin fee, blah blah. He also 'accidentally' tried to charge us $100 extra for red (red and white are the only colours with no surcharge), and he had put another $100 in for Protector Plus theft protection (glass etching) without even asking if I want it (it was already on the car). That extra $200 was quickly dispensed with when I figured out these charges were in the bottom lin price first presented to me. Also we got the 1.9% 3 year financing on about half the total purchase price.

Started off with $19K, talked with dealer he dropped to $18K. Talked more to $16.2. Traded in my wife's Jetta for $3200, and put a downpayment of $5500. So we ended up with around $8000.

Lightbulb Don't Get Bent Over!

If you really want to know how much a vehicle cost the dealer to buy from the actual manufacturer, then you need to consult Consumer Reports New Car Price Service. They have the definitive information as to how much it cost, how many dealer kickbacks they received, etc.. This reflects the true cost of the car, and gives you informed, intelligent leverage when it comes to the bargaining process.

All these sites that list an "invoice price" are likely bullshit. Early on, CR listed an "invoice price" for their pricing service, and as soon as dealers and auto manufacturers figured this out they implemented new, sneaky pricing schemes to hide the true cost of the car. So, now you can find an "invoice price" everywhere on the net. It's nothing new, it's nothing special, and it sure as damn hell isn't anything truly accurate. They want you to find that “invoice price” on the net so that you think you’re getting the actual cost. Then they can bend you over like an idiot and say, “Yeah, we’re really making a sacrifice in selling this car to you for this price, but that’s because we’re a nice, wholesome car dealer”. "I love you, man!". "World peace!".

Get out my face with that ****!

http://www.consumerreports.org/main/home.jsp

Click on the "New Car Price Service" link and follow the prompts. $12 for the potential of saving a grand +. It's worth it, and is an excellent service.

Unfortunately it isn't available in Canada. Sorry about that, guys! I haven't seen the CR Canada site, though. Maybe they have Canadian service there.

Don't get bent over like an idiot! Get the data and get a fair price!

Oh yeah! I bought my brand new '01 ES 2.0 with 16 miles on it for $15,700 US. That was for the fully loaded version (Moonroof, ABS, etc.) and wheel locks. That's also on top of an extra $100 I paid to have it flatbed trucked from a dealer in another state who had the one I wanted. That's the result of advanced research and informed, intelligent preparedness! 4% over what it cost the dealer to buy. Oh yeah, baby.

Hi 4u2zoom

What is fully equipped? AC, Auto, moonroof? Plus, did that include the taxes (PST & GST)? Just wondering. Also, did you know that Mazda is giving a $750 rebate to recent college grads?
